Vicky Hawkesworth takes over Early Breakfast and immediately starts a nationwide sauce investigation

Vicky Hawkesworth was in the Early Breakfast chair this week, filling in for Danny Mylo and Rosie Madison, and wasted no time setting listeners a proper puzzle. After being baffled by a takeaway app offering "original sauce" with no explanation, she spent much of the show asking texters to solve it, with suggestions ranging from Big Mac-style sauce and gravy to, more ambitiously, water and fermented fish sauce. A chef called John even sent in a full recipe, though Vicky wasn't convinced it could really be "original" if it was made of other sauces.

The team captain tradition carried on in Mylo and Rosie's absence, with Vicky inviting listeners to pitch themselves for the role before handover at 7am. Jane won the invisible crown after revealing she'd accidentally left the house in one black shoe and one brown one, reasoning it would get people talking about the show. "I can promote early breakfast," she told Vicky, who happily agreed.

Ahead of today's Live Lounge with Anderson .Paak and Corday, Vicky also replayed highlights from Bebe Doobie's visit last week, including her insistence on seven-minute boiled eggs wherever she stays. "It is what it is," Bebe said of hotel rooms left smelling of egg. Vicky also teased Greg James's upcoming show, recalling his guest Tom admitting he only discovered this year that veganism is a choice rather than a medical condition.
