Matt Edmondson and Mollie King kicked things off with a bruised ego after their “blindfolded hug” experiment backfired spectacularly the day before. Mollie had boasted she could pick Matt out of a line-up of eight people by touch alone, but ended up confidently hugging a colleague called Liv instead, prompting Matt to say “apologies, Liv” live on air. Things got worse when Sam MacGregor and Danni Diston tried the exact same test on their own show and nailed it, with Danni correctly identifying Sam’s hug on the first attempt. Matt and Mollie were left reeling, declaring the “gauntlet laid down” and vowing to come up with a rematch to prove they’re the station’s true best friends, with Mollie insisting “no two human beings know each other as well as we know each other.”

The pair also reopened an old wound over pronunciation, this time fighting over how to say “fondant,” with Matt and the team ganging up on Mollie’s version. They promised listeners a dedicated segment the next day to settle it once and for all, even floating the idea of bringing in “an actual French person” to adjudicate.

Elsewhere, Matt vs Mollie’s new game Biggest Anthems proved an instant hit, with listener Callum running the quiz and the pair tying at one point after both correctly naming The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights and Rihanna’s Umbrella as biggest streamers. Zach took on judging duties for Battle Tracks later in the show, awarding the win to Matt after Mollie fluffed the start of her pitch.
