Gary Davies sits in
Gary Davies presented during Radio 2’s 1980s week, drawing directly on his years hosting the chart and introducing many of the decade’s biggest records when they were new.
He used the programme to share stories about artists, studios and television appearances that had become part of listeners’ memories.
The 80s Mastermix
A specially extended Mastermix moved rapidly through familiar hooks, choruses and dance records from across the decade.
Gary explained how the mix had been assembled and invited listeners to identify the songs as quickly as possible.
Messages arrived from workplaces, kitchens and cars, with many listeners treating the sequence as an unofficial quiz.
Regular features
The Easiest Quiz and Birthday Game continued despite the altered music format, with contestants trying to keep their concentration while the programme remained firmly inside the 1980s.
