Elmo comes to Radio 2
Elmo travelled from Sesame Street to join Scott.
He said he loved Radio 2 and London and explained that he stayed with his auntie Funella at the Furchester Hotel when visiting Britain.
Scott introduced him as one of the best people in the world at cheering others up.
Asking how people really are
The visit coincided with World Mental Health Day.
Elmo remembered asking people online how they were doing and receiving a huge number of honest responses.
Some people were fine, while many admitted that they were struggling.
The experience taught Elmo that asking the question was only the beginning: it was equally important to listen to the answer.
Scott connected the message with BBC Headroom resources and encouraged listeners to seek information and support when they or somebody close to them was struggling.
Elmo and Tony Blackburn
Elmo shared one of his favourite jokes.
Scott immediately decided that Elmo and Tony Blackburn operated at exactly the same level of humour and should meet.
Elmo repeatedly called for Tony despite being told he would not arrive until the weekend.
Scott promised to pass on his love.
The Birthday Game: Tracy
Tracy from Worcestershire turned 56 and worked in Border Force at Birmingham Airport.
She was speaking from Paphos in Cyprus, where the temperature was around 30 degrees.
After watching Scott on Celebrity Race Across the World, Tracy and her partner planned to book their own South American journey.
She wanted a late-1970s or early-1980s banger, unless the slower song happened to be by Sam Smith.
Her first spin was Black Box’s Ride on Time, number one for six weeks in 1989.
Tracy accepted it immediately.
Her unused alternatives were CeeLo Green’s Forget You and Madonna’s True Blue.
She decided Black Box was the strongest choice.
Listener reaction
Messages poured in from adults and children saying Elmo had improved their mood.
Scott promised that Elmo would return the following afternoon for a special sing-along Wonder Years.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after a cheerful and thoughtful World Mental Health Day programme.
