Scott visits Dame Joan
Scott visited Dame Joan Collins at home for a conversation marking seven decades in showbusiness.
He described the surroundings as every bit as fabulous as listeners might expect and joked that the interview had unexpectedly become an Ideal Home tour.
Joan remained effortlessly theatrical throughout, addressing Scott as “darling” and discussing a career spanning film, television, theatre and writing.
Dynasty was meant to last six months
Joan reflected on joining Dynasty as Alexis Colby.
What had initially been intended as a six-month job became a nine-year role and one of the defining performances of her career.
Scott had spent the morning rewatching Alexis’s sharpest lines and praised Joan for consistently receiving the best comebacks.
Joan argued that audiences had once expected glamour from television stars and said modern television offered far less of it.
She did identify Strictly Come Dancing as one programme that still understood spectacle and glamour.
The pond fight was really Joan
Scott asked about the famous Dynasty fights.
Joan confirmed that the figure seen flying into the pond was genuinely her rather than a stunt double.
She encouraged viewers to freeze the shot and look at the body and hat moving through the air as proof.
The Birthday Game: Jess
Jess from Castleford turned 37.
She performed with the D-Day Darlings and also worked as a solo singer.
Her latest role was Fairy Sugar Snap in Jack and the Beanstalk at Barnsley Civic Theatre.
Jess planned tapas with family and friends before a larger Friday night out.
She liked pop, R&B, 1990s music, country and disco.
Her first spin was Calvin Harris and Sam Smith’s Promises, number one in 2018.
Jess called it an absolute banger but rejected it.
Her second was Whitney Houston’s One Moment in Time, written for the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
Jess loved Whitney and stopped immediately.
Her unused third song was Razorlight’s America.
She agreed that Whitney was the clear winner and prepared to belt the song out at home.
