20 September 2024: Lulu, David Tennant, Balamory and songs reimagined

Songs Reimagined

Scott revisited one of the week’s favourite features: familiar modern songs performed as though they belonged to a completely different musical world.

One version transformed Chappell Roan’s HOT TO GO! into something resembling The Sound of Music.

Scott argued that the arrangement was good enough to deserve a proper release.

Balamory returns

The programme celebrated the return of Balamory.

Scott had spent the previous morning teasing an announcement for fans of the colourful CBeebies series.

The revival prompted memories from listeners who had watched the original run with their children and from younger adults who had grown up with it themselves.

Lulu

Lulu joined the programme during a year marking major milestones in her career.

Scott celebrated her enduring connection with Radio 2 listeners and revisited songs and memories from across several decades.

David Tennant

David Tennant also appeared during the packed Friday breakfast show.

The conversation added another major Scottish guest to a programme already celebrating Balamory and Lulu.

The week in review

Scott looked back on Gary Lightbody, Jay’s Quiz, the Game Changers and the morning when Vernon Kay’s delayed train forced him to continue beyond breakfast.

Handover

Scott completed the week and handed over after one of the busiest programmes of the breakfast run.
