28 June 2024: Pixie Lott, car-boot bargains and Alex’s Maroon 5 gamble

Glastonbury weekend

Scott previewed the BBC’s extensive festival coverage.

Radio 2 and BBC Sounds offered live music, archive performances and special programmes, including Coldplay, Shania Twain and previous Pyramid Stage highlights.

Listeners sent views from Worthy Farm and messages from people preparing to watch at home.

The Same Interview on the podcast

Scott promoted the extended Pixie Lott Same Interview.

The conversation included the old Jedward rumour and Pixie’s dramatically different answers 15 years later.

The weekly podcast also featured Amanda and Ty’s Ed Sheeran-themed celebrity-lookalike wedding.

The Birthday Game: Alex

Alex from Huddersfield turned 36.

She loved car-boot sales and charity shops and enjoyed finding bargains for her three-year-old daughter Phoebe.

Alex wanted Foo Fighters or upbeat 1990s nostalgia.

Her first spin was Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, which finally reached number one in 2022 after appearing in Stranger Things.

Alex called it a great song but rejected it.

Her second was Rod Stewart’s Baby Jane. She said it was more suitable for her mother-in-law and gambled again.

Her compulsory final song was Maroon 5’s Payphone.

Alex described it as a guilty pleasure, while Scott insisted there was nothing guilty about liking it on Radio 2.

She accepted the upbeat Friday result.

Halfway to Christmas

Listeners noted that the year had passed its halfway point to Christmas, with one birthday celebration already becoming a half-Christmas party.

The Glastonbury Wonder Years

The Friday Wonder Years featured artists connected with Glastonbury performances.

Handover

Scott handed over to Sara Cox after the festival warm-up and Alex’s third-spin win.
