Sweden’s Eurovision entry
Scott continued introducing the acts heading to Malmö by speaking to Marcus & Martinus.
The Norwegian twins were representing host nation Sweden after winning Melodifestivalen with Unforgettable.
They discussed the unusual position of representing a country other than the one where they were born and the pressure that came with performing for the Eurovision hosts.
Scott played the song and invited listeners already holding semi-final tickets to send their reactions.
The early response was strongly positive, with several listeners predicting another high finish for Sweden.
The Birthday Game: Nicky
Nicky from Devon turned 54 and worked as a careers adviser in a school.
Away from work, she enjoyed walking three dogs with her husband Chris, cold-water swimming, cooking, gardening and living close to several beaches.
Her family had arranged a birthday surprise but had successfully kept the destination secret.
Nicky liked 1980s pop, including Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet, along with Take That and Ed Sheeran.
Her first spin was Gareth Gates’ version of Unchained Melody. Nicky had supported Will Young during Pop Idol and rejected it.
The second was Cliff Richard’s Congratulations, the song that narrowly missed winning Eurovision in 1968. She gambled again.
Her compulsory third song was Aloe Blacc’s The Man, number one in 2014.
Nicky said it was not something she would have selected herself, but accepted it as her birthday song and received Scott’s signed card.
The Feeling premiere My Way Up
Scott had a world-exclusive first play of the Feeling’s new single My Way Up.
The band were celebrating 20 years together with a new album and a tour of record shops and venues around Britain.
Scott remembered how heavily songs including Never Be Lonely and Fill My Little World had been played during the band’s breakthrough period.
He described the new track as beautiful and introduced it before any other station had played it.
ABBA voting continues
Scott continued urging listeners to choose their ultimate ABBA song before Gary Davies’s countdown.
He also directed listeners towards his BBC Sounds programme telling the story of ABBA’s 1974 victory and the Wombles’ interval film.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after previewing Girls Aloud’s studio visit the following afternoon.
