Rita’s rack
Scott celebrated after viewers spotted Scott Mills’ Big Ones in the previous night’s Coronation Street.
Janie from Somerset had watched specifically for the moment and cheered when the CD appeared.
Scott explained that once viewers began noticing Rita’s display, it became difficult not to monitor which albums disappeared and which remained for months.
He wondered who on the street still owned a CD player and imagined Rita also keeping a combined DVD and VHS machine.
The programme was told that a Coronation Street cast member would join later in the afternoon.
Robbie Williams’ birthday
Robbie Williams also celebrated his birthday.
Scott had invited him to play the Birthday Game but received no reply.
He played Millennium and wished Robbie a happy birthday regardless.
The Birthday Game: Simon
Simon from Walsall wanted music from the 1970s or 1980s.
His first spin was the Simpsons’ Do the Bartman, which featured Michael Jackson on backing vocals and had appeared with several remixes.
Simon called it fun but rejected it.
The second was U2’s Sometimes You Can’t Make It on Your Own, which had won Song of the Year at the Grammys.
Simon gambled again.
His compulsory final song was Kajagoogoo’s Too Shy, number one in 1983.
Simon was a fan and accepted the result happily.
Windows95man
Scott examined Finland’s Eurovision choice, Windows95man.
The performance involved the singer emerging from a denim egg in underwear, a Windows 95 T-shirt and extremely short shorts.
The Finnish jury had ranked it last, while the public placed it first.
Scott said it was unusual but nowhere near the strangest act he had encountered during his years covering Eurovision.
Handover
Scott handed over after another afternoon devoted to Rita’s rack and early Eurovision selections.
