Your first car
Scott asked listeners to send details of the first car they had owned.
The topic grew from a conversation about presenters buying cars from one another, including a vehicle reportedly passed from Jimmy Young to Ken Bruce and then to a former Radio 2 producer.
Thousands of listeners responded with memories of unreliable hatchbacks, cars bought by parents and vehicles that lasted only a few weeks.
Scott decided Bobby Pryor should try to identify callers’ cars from a handful of clues.
The full game followed on Friday under the name Mystic Bobbie.
The Birthday Game: Tammy
Tammy was named after country singer Tammy Wynette and described herself as an enormous live-music fan.
Her first concert had been an Elton John headline show in 1984, and she had seen Queen with Freddie Mercury in 1986.
Her later concert history included Pink, Robbie Williams, Adele, Lady Gaga, Oasis and Bruno Mars.
She also had tickets for both days of Radio 2 in the Park and planned to see S Club and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
Her first Birthday Game spin was Ne-Yo’s Closer, number one in 2008. Tammy was tempted but gambled.
The second was Wham!’s The Edge of Heaven, number one in 1986.
Tammy accepted it.
Scott noted that Elton John had played piano on the seven-inch version and at Wham!’s farewell concert at Wembley Stadium.
The Music Police
Scott returned to David’s late-1980s or early-1990s mystery featuring a man repeatedly saying “oh yeah”.
The programme tested new suggestions after DJ Spoony had already ruled out Yello’s Oh Yeah and Timmy Mallett’s Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini.
Another case involving Martin from Kidderminster was identified at the last moment as the Scottish dance record Bits and Pieces.
Wham! documentary
Scott previewed the forthcoming documentary Wham! and praised its archive material about George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley.
He was particularly interested in their early friendship and the making of Careless Whisper.
Handover
