2 December 2022: Barry White wins Jane’s Birthday Game

The Birthday Game: Jane

Jane turned 41 and strongly hinted that somebody in her household should take her to see Matilda the Musical at the cinema.

Her first spin produced Daniel Bedingfield. Jane said it was a nice song but not something she could dance to, so rejected it.

The second was George Michael and Elton John’s Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me. Jane called it “an epic song” and said she missed George Michael, but again wanted something more suitable for dancing.

Her compulsory final spin was Barry White’s You’re the First, the Last, My Everything.

“Oh, I’m happy,” she said, before Scott sent her one of his birthday balloons.

The Most Magical Entrance

Scott’s festive decorating rivalry intensified after local florist Laura sent a photograph of her house.

Bobby Pryor said it looked like a giant gingerbread house and “like you could put a knife into it”.

Jo Whiley appeared to offer Scott a giant decorative stag, although Scott then realised she had only sent him a link to a website selling one.

The Festive Wonder Years

Scott adapted The Wonder Years for December, playing Christmas records rather than rigidly following one song from every successive year.

He admitted it was impossible to create a perfect chronological Christmas sequence and instead promised to “bombard” listeners with festive music.

Handover

Scott handed over after apologising to listeners whose Whamageddon attempt had ended when he played Last Christmas without warning.
