7 November 2022: Rylan surprises Scott with the Great Scott TreadMills Challenge

The Great Scott TreadMills Challenge

Rylan interrupted the programme to reveal the major Children in Need challenge awaiting Scott.

Scott would spend 24 hours walking, jogging and running on a treadmill in the BBC Radio Theatre, with Radio 2 presenters and celebrity guests joining him throughout the day and night.

The announcement explained why the programme had been filled with cryptic references to “TreadMills”. Scott admitted that he was nervous and immediately began wondering how his body would cope with an entire day of constant movement.

Rylan had previously completed a 24-hour karaoke challenge for Children in Need and knew how physically and emotionally difficult the experience could become.

The Birthday Game: Oliver

Oliver from South Norwood was spending his birthday alone at a spa after a weekend that included the Natural History Museum, fireworks at Battersea Park and several trips to the pub.

His first spin produced John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John’s Summer Nights, number one on his birthday in 1978.

Unlike every contestant during launch week, Oliver did not gamble for another selection.

“I don’t think we can get better than Grease,” he said.

Scott celebrated finally having someone accept the opening song and sent Oliver one of the show’s birthday balloons.

The choice proved popular on a wet November afternoon. Sue, a vicar, apologised to anyone who had seen her driving while singing both parts of the duet at full volume.

Man-children

The programme also discussed adults who behaved like children.

Listeners described partners who sulked, threw tantrums or expected other people to solve their problems.

One woman said she was listening in the car with her husband and wondered how long it would take him to realise that her message was about him.

Handover

Scott handed over after returning to the newly announced challenge and the training he would need before 16 November.
