Sam thought he started Coldplay’s encore chant
Scott had spent the weekend in Paris with his fiancé Sam, seeing Coldplay at the Stade de France.
After the band left the stage, the crowd began the familiar chant demanding another song.
Sam was convinced he had started it.
Scott had recorded the moment.
To be fair, Sam appeared to begin chanting before the people immediately around him.
Unfortunately for the claim, Coldplay audiences all over the world already knew exactly what happened at that point in the show.
Scott did not initially have the heart to tell him that tens of thousands of people had not spontaneously followed his lead.
The discussion widened into the similar concert delusion that a performer has made direct eye contact with one specific person in an arena.
Producer Amy still believed Taylor Swift had once looked directly at her.
Nobody else accepted this evidence.
Brother or Lover met Richard and Dan
The day’s contestants were Richard and Dan.
Richard had previously worked as a lawyer and now had a difficult-to-explain legal information job.
Dan was a civil servant and equally vague about the detail.
Both liked gardening, tennis, coffee and dogs.
Their pets knew each other.
Their answers suggested a level of comfort that immediately pushed the team towards one conclusion.
Every clue sounded romantic
Richard complimented Dan’s coffee equipment.
They played tennis together.
Dan had helped with drilling in Richard’s garden.
They finished one another’s thoughts and had the sort of easy conversational chemistry the show normally associated with couples.
Even LaChilla concluded that the alternatives were becoming difficult to explain innocently.
For the first time, the entire team agreed.
Lovers.
Every single vote.
They were brothers
The reveal was brutal.
Richard and Dan were brothers.
The whole team had been fooled.
Their separate homes, the gardening help and the comfortable teasing had all been perfectly ordinary sibling behaviour.
Richard’s compliments about Dan’s equipment had only been about coffee.
The full sweep made it one of the strongest Brother or Lover defeats of the series.
Radio 1 Games remained chaotic
Elsewhere, the station’s summer games continued.
Jordan North accidentally announced the wrong winner during one event and had to reverse the result almost immediately.
The mistake was so perfectly Jordan North that nobody seemed especially surprised.
The show also joked about why Scott and Chris themselves were not taking part, producing school-style excuses involving notes from parents and verrucas.
Helena took over the quiz
Producer Helena returned with one of her distinctive quiz rounds based around the way she and her friends spoke.
This time it involved aggressively abbreviated words.
The very concept delighted Scott because Helena had even abbreviated “abbreviations”.
It was another small sign that despite the huge leaving story around them, the show was still capable of spending several minutes arguing about whether “soups” was a legitimate shortened form of “super”.
