29 November 2021: Brad travelled 6,038 miles for a hook-up and Radio 1 finally found someone who holidayed in Wolverhampton

Charlie started the mileage at 60.6

Hook-up Higher or Lower returned.

Listener Charlie supplied the first figure.

Her random fact was that she could apparently pop one of her hips in and out.

Scott suggested this should perhaps be medically checked rather than used as a party trick.

Then came the important number:

60.6 miles.

Scott had guessed 45.

Chris had guessed 70.

The actual answer sat almost perfectly between them.

The relationship itself had begun online and eventually fizzled out.

The mileage survived as Radio 1 content.

Brad destroyed the scale of the game

The next caller was Brad.

His fun fact:

he could play tunes using his teeth.

Scott and Chris decided this made Brad sound like somebody who probably did not need to travel very far for romantic attention.

They both chose lower than 60.6 miles.

Brad’s answer:

6,038 miles.

He had travelled to Thailand.

The story involved somebody he had met there previously, social-media contact afterwards and a rapid decision to buy plane tickets and return.

Scott could barely believe how badly their theory had failed.

A man who could play tunes on his teeth had also crossed continents for a hook-up.

Kishira brought Wolverhampton into the conversation

The next caller was Kishira, originally from the Cayman Islands and now living in Wolverhampton.

Scott immediately became distracted.

Moving from the Cayman Islands to Wolverhampton was such an extreme geographical contrast that the mileage game almost disappeared.

Then Kishira revealed part of her own story had involved travelling from the Caribbean to the UK for a relationship.

Scott made a throwaway claim:

nobody goes to Wolverhampton on holiday.

Kishira complicated that too.

Someone really had holidayed there

Kishira explained that she had indeed spent holiday time in the area as part of the relationship.

Scott protested that this did not count as somebody choosing Wolverhampton in the same way they might choose Spain.

Listeners began messaging examples.

The show had accidentally created a second challenge:

find someone who had deliberately booked Wolverhampton as a holiday destination.

Scott maintained that he liked the city.

He simply doubted it featured heavily in Caribbean travel brochures.

Tom became Radio 1’s first Teen Hero of the year

The programme also celebrated Tom, 13, a WCMX athlete using a wheelchair to perform skatepark and BMX-style tricks.

He had taken up the sport after beginning to use a wheelchair and was already helping raise its profile in the UK.

Tom’s sister Jessica nominated him as a Teen Hero.

Charlie Hedges surprised him at home while Greg James managed the secrecy from the breakfast show.

Scott and Chris loved the idea of listeners hearing somebody’s genuine reaction at the moment Radio 1 arrived at the door.

The Who Game and cryptocurrency finished Monday

The Who Game delivered the usual nostalgia.

Don’t Look It Up later tested whether strange cryptocurrency names were real.

After Brad’s 6,038-mile romantic journey and an argument about Wolverhampton tourism, even fake digital currencies sounded comparatively ordinary.
