28 July 2020: Chris sang Kiko Bun naked in the BBC showers to promote Sticky Situation

Scott had found a song everybody else needed to love

The archive moved to Scott and Chris’s obsession with Kiko Bun’s *Sticky Situation*.

Scott was convinced it was one of the songs of the year.

Radio 1 was playing it, he heard it around the building and he personally sang it constantly.

But it had not yet become the enormous hit he believed it deserved to be.

Scott argued that more people simply needed to hear it.

Chris made the mistake of agreeing.

The BBC showers provided a captive audience

Scott remembered the communal showers in the basement at Broadcasting House.

Lots of staff cycled into work and used them in the morning.

That meant a collection of BBC employees — possibly even important decision-makers — would all be gathered in one steamy room.

What better place to spread the word about Kiko Bun?

Chris was sent downstairs.

He found the showers busy, with people drying themselves and preparing for work.

One man was even using the hand dryer on his hair.

Chris removed his clothes live on Radio 1

Once inside a cubicle, Chris asked whether he was actually allowed to get undressed.

Scott gave him permission.

Chris took everything off, switched on the shower and noted the recurring absurdity of being completely naked while broadcasting on national radio.

His clothes were hanging over the door.

Scott assured him nobody would steal them.

Then the music started.

Nobody joined in

Chris launched into *Sticky Situation*.

His plan was to sing loudly enough that everyone else in the showers would recognise it and join him.

They did not.

Chris repeatedly sang the chorus and called out for other people to participate.

Silence.

Scott suggested the problem might be that Chris was not singing it accurately enough for anybody to recognise the song.

The shower became hotter.

Chris became sweatier and more uncomfortable.

Eventually he acknowledged the obvious irony: while trying to promote *Sticky Situation*, he had placed himself in a genuinely sticky situation.

He abandoned the singalong, dried off and returned upstairs.

Scott’s campaign to make Kiko Bun number one had not exactly swept through the BBC, but it had at least produced one deeply awkward naked performance.
