15 January 2020: Naked Attraction introduced Tallywacker Tanning Mist

Somebody was always ill

Scott and Chris began with people who never simply felt unwell in private.

Every ache, dentist appointment or sniffle became a running workplace bulletin.

A listener fresh from the dentist wanted Radio 1’s sympathy.

Scott admitted he had previously been guilty of letting everybody know when he felt rough.

Chris claimed his own threshold was much higher.

The inevitable messages from listeners suggested neither presenter was as stoic as they believed.

Britain’s Biggest Mug was still recruiting

The enormous mug remained unawarded.

Listeners continued nominating themselves for doing something stupid, behaving badly or allowing another person to make a fool of them.

Scott liked the self-nomination rule because the feature became a confession rather than revenge.

The prize itself remained gloriously literal.

Britain’s Biggest Mug would receive Britain’s biggest mug.

Naked Attraction raised a practical question

The programme then discovered *Naked Attraction* was looking for new participants.

Scott and Chris briefly discussed whether they could ever apply.

The answer was complicated by the fact neither was actually looking for love and both had reasons not to expose themselves on television.

That was not the question which held their attention for long.

Listeners claimed contestants received make-up before filming, including on areas normally hidden by clothes.

Scott found the idea surprisingly logical.

Television lights required make-up on faces.

Why would the rest of the body be completely different?

Chris wanted more detail.

Tom had actually been on the programme

A former participant called Tom got in touch and said he had appeared in series two.

Scott and Chris immediately treated him as an authority on what happened behind the coloured pods.

They asked about preparation, nerves and how somebody adjusted to being naked while a full television production happened around them.

The discussion remained more interested in the unusual logistics than in recreating the explicit programme itself.

The phrase which survived was Tallywacker Tanning Mist.

If television make-up existed below the waist, Radio 1 had found the least elegant possible product name.

Bamboleo Wednesday returned

The first regular Bamboleo Wednesday of this January package also gave listeners the usual instrumental gap to fill with old archive clips.

By this point the weekly ritual barely required explanation.

The source contains severe ASR substitutions around presenters and artists, so the archive follows the feature context rather than reproducing those mistaken identities.
