13 November 2019: Lewis Capaldi took on Innuendo Bingo as Tyson Fury pep talks were announced

Maisie Peters had left the listeners wanting more winter sadness

The show opened with reaction to Maisie Peters’ appearance the previous day. Listener Lydia praised the newly winterised song and the return of emotional pop that could make Christmas sound simultaneously lovely and devastating.

Scott admitted he had accidentally failed to meet Maisie while they were in the same American city earlier in the year, despite messages suggesting they should get together. It added another piece of guilt to a week in which he had already upset the emos.

Tyson Fury was being lined up as the show’s motivator

The programme announced that Tyson Fury would be joining the following week and asked listeners to send in situations where they needed a motivational speech. First dates, exams, interviews, difficult conversations and proposals were all suggested as moments where a few words from a heavyweight boxer might help.

The idea was deliberately broader than sport. Scott wanted ordinary listeners to bring their own fights, however small or serious, and see what Fury could say to them.

The Fact Controller taught Scott what a bluebottle was

A stray conversation revealed that Scott had only recently understood that a bluebottle was a fly. He had once seen a property description warning of a bluebottle infestation and imagined actual blue bottles lying around.

The programme also discovered the informal name “weenus” for the loose skin around the elbow and immediately began pinching and testing it. The Fact Controller segment did what it normally did: start with something that sounded too stupid to be true and end with the studio repeating the new word for the rest of the show.

Lewis Capaldi became one of the two young studs getting wet

Lewis Capaldi then joined Chris for Innuendo Bingo and happily accepted Scott’s alternative description of the feature as two young studs getting wet. Water bottles were filled, the players sat facing one another and the archive clips began.

A Bargain Hunt item about a boy being allowed to peek into his grandmother’s china cabinet was enough to start the spraying. Another clip involved a presenter describing wrapping her legs around somebody before being taken up a bypass.

Lewis committed to the game rather than trying to stay dry. By the end, the usual combination of innocent archive wording and people anticipating the next line had left the studio soaked.
