Johannes faced the Fresher Quiz
Fresher of the Week Johannes had spent several days telling Radio 1 what university life actually looked like.
Now his mum Jane joined.
Scott and Chris gave her several possible stories for things Johannes had done during the week.
Only one answer in each set was true.
The game worked because parents normally received a cleaned-up version of university life.
“Yes, I’m eating properly.”
“No, I’m not drinking much.”
“Yes, everything is fine.”
The Fresher Quiz supplied the material which had been left out.
Jane became one of the most enthusiastic parents the feature had booked.
Scott and Chris loved hearing her react while Johannes realised he had voluntarily allowed national radio to reveal his first week to his mum.
The banana theory went royal
Radio 1’s banana-before-a-test theory was still producing listener messages.
People claimed to be passing exams and driving tests after eating one.
Then Chris brought Scott a piece of banana-related royal trivia.
The Queen was said to eat a banana with a knife and fork rather than simply peeling it and taking bites.
The supposed reason was avoiding the appearance of “gobbling” food.
Scott immediately asked everybody to imagine the Queen eating a banana normally.
It did not look right in his head.
The show jokingly upgraded the test advice.
If a normal banana brought luck, perhaps a knife-and-fork banana was the premium version.
Camila Cabello reviewed herself
Camila Cabello joined after her Live Lounge performance.
Scott and Chris were becoming fascinated by artists critiquing their own sessions immediately afterwards.
Camila listened back with a much more critical ear than the presenters.
The pair thought the performance sounded excellent.
Camila could still identify tiny things she would change.
Scott enjoyed the gap between what an audience heard and what a performer heard in their own work.
Bamboleo marked the move
Wednesday still meant Bamboleo.
Listeners supplied archive clips for the instrumental gap.
The programme treated the weekly moment with the usual ridiculous importance.
There was also something bigger happening outside the studio.
Scott’s boyfriend was moving in that day.
Chris had made a trailer
Chris had not abandoned the proposed reality show.
He produced a dramatic Move In With Mills trailer imagining cameras following Scott and Sam around their shared home.
Scott tried to act as though the move itself was normal and private.
The show had now given it a hashtag, countdown, theme and trailer.
That battle had already been lost.
