Nathaniel became a show character in minutes
Bangers introduced Nathaniel.
Scott and Chris liked him almost immediately.
His enthusiasm, delivery and willingness to join the nonsense made him one of those callers who felt like part of the show rather than somebody simply choosing a song.
The presenters declared him the best Bangers caller they had heard for ages.
Then they issued a challenge.
If another listener believed they could be better than Nathaniel, they should try.
Nathaniel had accidentally set a new standard.
Total Swipe Out spread to listeners
After Scott and Chris called their own partners, more couples volunteered for the same experiment.
One caller had met her boyfriend through friends rather than online.
Neither had really used dating apps.
She worried that, if they had, he might not have swiped right on her photograph.
Scott called him.
The conversation demonstrated again how different attraction could be once personality, voice and familiarity entered the picture.
The feature was uncomfortable because there was no safe answer.
A yes could sound automatic.
A no could become a household incident.
Bamboleo survived another Wednesday
The weekly Bamboleo gap returned.
Listeners continued sending old archive moments to be dropped into the Gipsy Kings instrumental.
The programme treated the gap as though it were a broadcast event in its own right.
By autumn 2019, it effectively was.
Innuendo Bingo met Harry Potter
Then Daniel Radcliffe sat down opposite Chris.
The game became Harry Potter and the Gobfull of Water.
Daniel had played Harry Potter for a decade.
Scott’s clips did not care.
They came from the usual sources where innocent phrases could sound filthy once stripped of context.
One clip involved a trombonist discussing a carrot mouthpiece and choosing the largest bell end.
Another involved people “mass debating” on air.
The studio inevitably dissolved.
Daniel committed properly
The best celebrity Innuendo Bingo guests understood that dignity was not the goal.
Daniel did.
Water went everywhere.
Scott revelled in the collision between one of Britain’s most recognisable actors and the most childish regular game on Radio 1.
The title wrote itself.
Harry Potter had finally acquired a gobfull of water.
