Love Island still had not explained Sherif
A full day had passed and viewers still did not know exactly why Sherif had left the villa.
Scott and Chris were almost offended.
They had spent Tuesday expecting the mystery to resolve itself.
Instead, Wednesday’s episode offered little more than the fact he was gone.
The programme joked that Superfan Steve could be sent into the villa as a replacement.
At least Steve would provide a clear reason for viewers to feel uncomfortable.
Superfan Steve no longer belonged only to Chris
After the Cheryl video spread widely, listeners began imitating Superfan Steve themselves.
Some apparently rang other radio programmes using the strange Steve voice.
Scott and Chris realised the character could escape the show entirely.
Chris no longer needed to be the only Steve.
Anybody could become him.
The pair encouraged listeners to report back if they successfully confused somebody elsewhere with the character.
The rat nominations continued
Verity’s rat remained nameless.
Wednesday produced more stories involving exes whose behaviour earned a nomination.
One candidate had apparently been dating somebody while still using apps and contacting other people.
Scott liked that the animal itself had become almost secondary.
The real feature was hearing the reasons listeners thought somebody deserved the title rat.
The Stark Guide crossed a border
Listener Alec was going on a first holiday with girlfriend Rachel to Kraków, Poland.
He wanted one of Chris’s guides.
This created a landmark.
The Stark Guide to Britain was leaving Britain for the first time.
Chris approached Kraków exactly as he approached Manchester, Norwich or Huddersfield.
Grand historical narration.
Questionable online facts.
Nightlife recommendations.
And enough local pronunciation to make Scott nervous.
Tulia and Max Factor became the headline discoveries
The guide mentioned Polish Eurovision group Tulia, whose sound Scott and Chris immediately recognised as impossible to ignore.
Then came one of Scott’s favourite discoveries.
Cosmetics brand Max Factor really was named after a man called Max Factor, who was born in the region of what is now Poland and later became famous in the beauty industry.
Scott had known the brand for years without properly thinking about the person behind the name.
The guide also discussed Kraków’s huge student population, old town and nightlife.
Alec left with enough material to behave like he had researched his own holiday.
Father’s Day remained a running quiz
The New Zealand “Father’s Day is on Sunday” clip continued throughout the week.
Scott and Chris randomly called listeners to see whether they recognised it.
Some did.
Others became completely confused by being asked for the question when they had already supplied the correct answer.
The feature was probably doing more to remind people about Father’s Day than any normal public-service announcement could have managed.
