15 March 2019: Friday Extra officially introduced Jeffrey the Cock

Friday Extra Show: listeners reviewed the week

Extra podcast edition

Chris used Friday as the programme’s own version of *Points of View*.

Listeners had opinions about Scott’s Welsh national anthem, the cockerel naming and tiny bits of the weekday show which the presenters themselves had barely noticed.

One caller from Wales said Scott’s effort at Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau was better than expected.

Scott had also received encouragement from figures including rugby referee Nigel Owens.

The challenge had moved from “can Scott learn enough Welsh?” to “what happens when he sings it in the stadium tomorrow?”

Jeffrey the Cock received the full introduction

The Extra Show replayed the strongest cockerel nominations.

Harriet’s story about her father Jeffrey remained the winner.

The affair with the next-door neighbour and babysitter while he claimed to be playing snooker had been difficult for any rival nominee to beat.

Mary’s cockerel was now permanently Jeffrey.

Chris liked the way an anonymous animal-naming request had turned into several days of people airing relationship grievances on national radio.

Kelly’s footstool story had more detail

Friday also carried more from Kelly and her dad Tim.

The living-room conception had moved from sofa to floor and finally onto the oversized footstool.

The extended conversation allowed Scott and Chris to ask all the questions daytime timing normally forced them to abandon.

How big was the stool?

Where exactly had it been?

Why had the floor failed?

And what eventually happened to the furniture?

Tim’s simple answer, “it broke”, remained the most suspicious part.

Kelly wished everybody would stop discussing it.

Scott’s charger habits became listener evidence

One listener said their favourite tiny moment of the week had been Scott panicking about people’s phone batteries around the Big Weekend ticket sale.

The conversation then exposed another familiar Scott trait.

He did not enjoy people borrowing his charger.

Chris suggested Scott was extremely generous about many things but could become strangely territorial around the small objects he relied on every day.

The Friday Extra Show had once again taken the week’s large stories and ended up finding comedy in the tiny behind-the-scenes details.
