21 May 2018: Chris nearly ordered a pizza to Chinese Dave’s wedding

Two weddings had taken over the weekend

Scott and Chris returned to afternoons after a weekend dominated by weddings.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had married at Windsor.

Chris had been at the wedding of his friend Chinese Dave.

The Royal Wedding had also apparently increased demand for red-haired men who looked even vaguely like Prince Harry.

Listeners described people suddenly becoming interested in ginger men over the weekend, and the programme found a man called Harry from Chichester who was regularly told he resembled the prince.

He said the resemblance could attract attention, although his girlfriend was understandably less excited by strangers treating him as a novelty royal lookalike.

Chris missed the noodles

At Chinese Dave’s reception, Chris had made one crucial mistake.

He went to the toilet at exactly the wrong time.

When he returned, the evening food had appeared and disappeared.

The noodles had gone in around ten minutes.

Chris was still hungry.

His solution was to order a pizza directly to the wedding.

The people around him stopped him.

They argued that bringing an outside takeaway into somebody’s reception after the couple had already provided food was rude.

Chris did not entirely agree.

From his perspective, he had simply missed the food and wanted something to eat.

Scott understood the hunger but could also see why a delivery driver arriving at the venue with one private pizza might look slightly insulting.

The discussion widened into whether ordering takeaway food at a wedding was ever acceptable.

The Royal Wedding had reportedly involved huge quantities of food being ordered and arranged in advance, but Scott stressed that this was rather different from one guest secretly summoning a pizza because he had missed the buffet.

Biggest Weekend was becoming real

Attention then shifted to Swansea.

BBC Music’s Biggest Weekend was only days away, and Scott and Chris were beginning to hear the practical anxieties that came with a huge festival.

Travel, weather, clothing, stage clashes and how early to queue were becoming regular subjects.

Greg James had already been spotted in Swansea, increasing the sense that Radio 1 was beginning to migrate west for the event.

Scott knew the area well and was preparing to spend much of the week there.

Chris was about to discover that festival planning could require almost as much negotiation as a wedding.
