Swansea finally got the announcement
Scott no longer had to guard the secret.
Radio 1’s Biggest Weekend was coming to Swansea, and the first announced artists included Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift.
Messages immediately arrived from Welsh listeners who had spent years applying for Big Weekend tickets and now had the festival arriving on their doorstep.
Scott admitted that keeping the information quiet the previous day had been extremely difficult, particularly because he also knew the first artist names.
He immediately began hoping Ed and Taylor might perform together.
Tom trusted his girlfriend but not the situation
Listener Tom contacted Scott and Chris because he spent much of his working day alone in the car and regarded the programme as something close to extended family.
He had been seeing his girlfriend for six months.
Before their relationship, she had kissed her personal trainer.
She had told Tom about it herself.
The complication was that she was still training with the same man, sometimes during his lunch break and apparently for free.
Tom insisted he trusted his girlfriend but admitted the situation continued to bother him.
Chris was less relaxed.
He pointed out that personal training already involved close physical contact and said he would struggle if the two people involved had previously kissed.
Scott thought Tom wanted reassurance more than a verdict.
Listeners were invited to provide the rest.
James in Exeter needed an opening line
Another listener, James, was spending long days in Exeter University library because of dissertation work.
He had noticed a woman there and believed they had exchanged enough eye contact for there to be some mutual interest.
A university Facebook page even contained an anonymous message to a “cute boy” making eyes across the library, and James wondered whether it referred to him.
His problem was starting a conversation in one of the least conversational places possible.
Chris suggested something that required almost no speaking.
Draw a noughts-and-crosses grid on paper.
Start the game.
Slide it over.
The plan would be tested the following day.
