Radio 1 finally acknowledged the toilet gig
With Chris now officially heading to Hï Ibiza’s Wild Corner, he was slightly aggrieved that the glamorous Radio 1 Ibiza promotion naturally focused on the DJs playing the main rooms.
The team therefore produced a version that made his contribution impossible to miss: Chris Stark would be playing in the toilets.
Toilet research required actual toilets
Chris still needed to decide what music would work in such an unusual venue, so Scott recruited Nathan, Haley and Luke to lock themselves in toilets at their workplaces.
Tracks were played to all three. If a song felt wrong for the setting, they had to flush.
Two flushes meant rejection. No flushes meant a potential addition to the Ibiza set.
The experiment established that a tune could sound completely different once judged beside a cistern, and gave Chris a scientifically questionable but perfectly appropriate way to build his playlist.
The homemade festival obsession continued
Scott and Chris also returned to listeners staging increasingly elaborate festivals of their own.
One event had grown well beyond a simple birthday gathering, with proper stages, bands, sponsors and named areas. Scott remained convinced these miniature festivals were fundamentally a bit posh, however seriously their organisers insisted they were taking them.
