22 March 2016: Gordon Brown fails to improve a listener’s dating profile

Gordon Brown in the profile picture

A listener’s dating profile showed him and his friend Connor beside a cardboard cutout of Gordon Brown. He chose the picture because he looked good in it, had proof of a social life and hoped the former prime minister would provide an easy conversation starter.

One woman asked whether Gordon was his father, despite the visible sheen of cardboard. The photograph had not otherwise brought much success. Chris searched for a Scott Mills cutout for his planned games room but found none, while Scott feared any life-sized version of himself would be photographed in compromising positions.

Meeting the parents

With Easter approaching, new couples were preparing for first meetings with families. Ryan had been with his partner for just over two months and faced an entire weekend of questions, sleeping arrangements and unfamiliar house rules. Scott’s principal advice was not to block the toilet.

Laura had arranged a more controlled visit. She would spend about two hours with her boyfriend’s parents in Sheffield before continuing to a party, providing a useful test before two larger family gatherings. She planned to focus on his mother and answer questions about her intended career in music therapy.

Scott realised that getting on well with mothers could become a service. He offered to attend difficult introductions as a GBF, smoothing over the meeting while the actual partner dealt with the family. Chris wrote it into the growing book of ideas before anybody else could claim it.

Famous families

Scott and Chris considered whether celebrities felt the same pressure. Tinie Tempah arriving at an ordinary family home seemed likely to be recognised before he could explain the relationship, while a meeting involving Harry Styles, Kendall Jenner and both mothers would contain famous people on every side.

Charlie Sloth returned for Real or No Real, including a claim that Kendall and Kylie Jenner disguised themselves as elderly women for a Hollywood homes tour. The game wandered into stories of listeners’ distant connections with wealthy and “famous in small circles” people.
