Scott wakes up outside Strictly
Scott introduced a bumper collection from three mornings covering the Radio 1 Breakfast Show while Nick Grimshaw was ill. The first began immediately after Scott and Joanne Clifton had left Strictly Come Dancing, with Scott still coming to terms with the end of six weeks of training.
He was satisfied to have reached the Halloween show and knew he had never been likely to win, although leaving dressed as Uncle Fester ensured that photographs of his bald head would follow him for years. The latex cap took ninety minutes to attach, trapped so much sweat that removing it became unpleasant for the make-up team, and left Scott confident that natural baldness would suit him later in life.
Chris had placed a small bet at odds of 150–1 and stood to win about £8,000. He had already begun spending it mentally. Tim Wonnacott phoned to welcome Scott into the club of former contestants and warned that strangers would approach him in supermarkets as though he had suffered a bereavement. Scott’s four-year-old niece had taken the result more seriously and cried because she believed he would never dance again.
Jordan Stephens finishes Glue
Jordan Stephens joined fellow cast members Billy Howle and Tommy Knight ahead of the final episode of E4 drama Glue. Jordan described being made to complete six auditions because the production did not want his Rizzle Kicks fame to substitute for acting ability.
He had found it difficult to step out of the dark character after filming, particularly after intimate scenes. The young cast lived near the location for months and became so noisy that their hotel separated them into distant rooms. Jordan nevertheless wanted to act again after the response to the series.
Alex from Target and the end of the posters
On Tuesday, the unexplained online fame of “Alex from Target” baffled the show. Scott and Chris also removed the Vote Scott and Joanne poster from the Breakfast studio one day after Scott extinguished his photograph on It Takes Two. The slow dismantling felt like taking down a Christmas tree in January.
They discussed Gareth Malone’s celebrity choir for Children in Need, including Alison Hammond’s serious performance of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”. Fearne Cotton’s constant typing in the next studio inspired another round of guessing what she could possibly be writing.
A boyfriend for winter
Wednesday returned to the question Scott had asked One Direction: had anybody deliberately found a partner for winter? Listeners admitted doing exactly that for companionship, seasonal outings and extra presents. One man treated relationships from autumn to Valentine’s Day as a regular testing period, while Sarah confessed that she had ended one at midnight on New Year’s Eve.
The Breakfast audience also received its first early-morning Bumbleleo Wednesday. Scott delayed it until after 08:00 for a school pupil who wanted to join in, then heard from listeners dancing in cars, laboratories, offices and boarding houses.
