One Direction require a secret location
Scott announced that he would interview One Direction live the following day. The band could not safely visit Radio 1 because of the crowds their appearances attracted, so he would begin the programme from an undisclosed location while Chris controlled the studio.
The interview was the first of the day about the album Four and had been arranged late enough to surprise fans around the world. Scott warned listeners not to come to Broadcasting House, prepared to check whether he was being followed and left Chris to consider what “holding the fort” might involve.
The correct two Chrises finally meet
Chris Ramsey returned to Innuendo Bingo. He had played before, but Chris Stark was ill on that occasion and Gemma Cairney replaced him. Ramsey now received the full version of the game against its most enthusiastic regular.
He discussed finishing a tour, his reluctance to leave home again and the strange messages people sent when they knew he was coming to Radio 1. Scott also asked how it felt to be described as the fittest comedian, a title Chris accepted more easily than some of the audience’s other comments.
Clips from Match of the Day, daytime television, the Gadget Show and BBC Scotland made it a particularly wet session. Ramsey attacked rather than defended, and both men finished soaked.
Toilets receive an alternative soundtrack
Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 Rescores Drive would give the Ryan Gosling film a completely new collection of music. As a respectful tribute, Chris decided to rescore something more ordinary: visits to the BBC toilets.
He entered the men’s room with a speaker and waited for unsuspecting colleagues. Music accompanied people entering cubicles, washing their hands and attempting to leave, while Chris stressed that he was not improving the experience, only offering a parallel version.
The concept became uncomfortable when one visitor remained in a cubicle and Chris did not know whether to stop the soundtrack or wait. What began as a parody of a major creative project ended with him trapped in an awkward conversation beside the sinks.
Charlie Sloth played Real or No Real. The game confirmed that Lethal Bizzle had performed a UK garage version of the Yaya and Kolo Touré football chant and that tomato ketchup had once been marketed as medicine. Charlie also announced that his familiar body was a fat suit he intended to remove at 1Xtra Live, a reveal nobody expected him to deliver.
