Greg has a new voiceover job
Scott discovered that Greg James had recorded the automated welcome for the BBC’s internal meeting-room telephone service. Greg believed his responsibility ended when the messages were complete; Scott thought the voice of the system ought to provide a more personal service.
Listeners were therefore routed directly to Greg’s mobile and told to ask for rooms. Laura requested the imaginary Nick Knowles suite for an urgent meeting with refreshments. After initial confusion, Greg tried to help, offered the less desirable Peter Sissons room and promised a Twix and a can of Fanta.
A second caller wanted the Hugh Grant suite for six people attending a politics meeting on Saturday. Greg again accepted the booking, suggested the building would be quiet and offered to leave money for tea and coffee. His growing awareness that Scott was behind the calls did not stop him attempting to solve each problem.
The party sleepers
The show heard about people who could fall asleep in almost any social setting. Scott remembered Beccy surviving an entire DJ set in Kavos before requiring a three-hour sleep on a sofa. A Radio 1 colleague had been known to remain standing on a dance floor after his movements slowed to a complete stop.
Listeners supplied photographs and stories, including a sleeper used as the surface for a chessboard and somebody found with his head inside a fridge. The talent seemed useful until friends started balancing objects on people or shaving their eyebrows.
Gary Lucy runs in from the station
Gary Lucy arrived directly from a train after returning from Dubai and played Real or No Real. One claim said former JLS member JB Gill owned 50 pigs. Gary remembered seeing photographs of JB on a tractor and correctly decided that the pop star really had moved into farming.
Chris was absent at a wedding, leaving Scott to prepare for the weekend’s Strictly dance without his usual campaign manager. Scott also replayed the Made in Chelsea Bingo and Paul Hollywood’s café visit, both of which had quickly become successful videos.
