Jessie J explains Bang Bang
Jessie J arrived for Innuendo Bingo and discussed how “Bang Bang” had brought her together with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. Jessie recorded first after Max Martin sent her the song; Ariana joined the second verse, and Nicki heard it in the studio and asked to add a rap.
The three artists did not meet until the video shoot, by which point the single was already becoming an enormous international success. Jessie had made much of her album quickly and remotely, working without meeting most of its writers and producers.
A genuinely wet Bingo
Chris wanted his first game after Bali to be memorable. Jessie had prepared with crisps and chewing gum and appeared to understand the rules, but she could not have predicted the force with which Chris would project the water.
Clips from Stoke-on-Trent, gardening, football and BBC News covered her face, hair, eyelashes and shirt. Jessie wrung water from her clothes and described the experience as a shower, while Scott admired how completely she had committed to it.
Tap End returns
The show revived 24 Years at the Tap End, the autobiography feature named after Chris discovering that he had spent his life sitting against the taps in the bath. It had been away for roughly a year because the team believed they had exhausted his stories; travelling to Bali provided an entire new chapter.
Chris began in Ubud among rice fields, mopeds, stray dogs and lizards in his jungle hotel. He packed antibacterial gel, mosquito netting, repellent, high-factor sun cream, loose trousers, socks, purification tablets and other protections, then developed a cold on his second day.
At a monkey sanctuary, he obtained the required photograph but found the animals impossible to reason with once bananas appeared. A later boat party in Seminyak promised traditional Balinese entertainment and left him with a hazy photograph beside two topless dancers he could not identify.
The massage reaches the edge
Chris’s most reflective moment came during a massage on a bed beside the sea. He had no underwear beneath his swimming shorts and tried to communicate this before undressing behind a towel in full view of the beach.
The treatment was more thorough than any massage he had previously experienced. With the waves beside him and the masseuse’s hands repeatedly approaching areas he had not expected, Chris thought about Scott, Radio 1, his friends growing up and the value of leaving his familiar holidays behind.
His lesson was to live fully, spread his wings and take things to the edge. Scott was impressed enough to accept the chapter as a successful return rather than an unnecessary revival.
Charlie Sloth also played Fact Tuesday. At the end of the show, Scott handed the programme to Dev while he concentrated on the approaching Strictly live performance.
