Scott returns from Marrakesh
The bank-holiday Breakfast Show began with Scott comparing weekends with Chris. Scott had travelled to Marrakesh with a former flatmate for their annual trip and found the main square an assault on every sense.
Music, heat, monkeys and snake charmers competed for attention. While Scott walked past, a man placed a snake on his back and expected payment for the experience. Scott froze rather than enjoying it and regarded the encounter as useful preparation for Chris’s first long-distance holiday.
Another man led Scott into a lengthy discussion about essential oils for hair, skin, food and almost every other purpose. Scott warned Chris that friendliness in a tourist area frequently became a sales technique before the visitor realised what was happening.
Danny Howard reaches Radio 4
Paddy O’Connell had interviewed Danny Howard on Broadcasting House about Calvin Harris becoming the world’s highest-paid DJ for a second year. The report described a journey upstairs to trendy Radio 1 and introduced Danny as the network’s dance-music authority.
Scott enjoyed hearing the two broadcasting styles meet. Danny explained modern DJ earnings while Paddy observed that he had managed the interview without wearing a hoodie. Scott believed the day he stopped wearing hoodies would be the day he had to leave Radio 1.
Pulled pork is taking over
Chris abruptly announced that pulled pork was appearing everywhere. It was in pubs, burgers and menus alongside macaroni cheese, and he believed the country had reached peak pork.
Scott questioned why this thought followed a discussion about airport closures. Chris insisted he was simply reporting what he saw. Listeners confirmed that the meat had become inescapable, validating a trend forecast delivered with no transition at all.
The show also revisited sleep-recording apps, including Scott’s mysterious nocturnal line, “Go and open the window, Gary.” A listener played Real or No Real, and the next morning’s bookings were announced: Judge Rinder on the telephone and Nicole Scherzinger live in the studio.
