Katy Perry talks tour life as Holly broadcasts her sleep-talking

Listener Holly opened the programme with recordings captured by an app while she slept. In the clips she sounded lost, issued an unexplained apology, repeatedly shouted “Shark!” before adding “Dog”, and finished with a stretch of complete gibberish. Grimmy, who also talked in his sleep, wanted the same app and thought Holly’s noises could become useful dance-music samples.

Grimmy played his interview with Katy Perry about her concert film Part of Me 3D. Perry had returned from Australia with jet lag and gone on an early-morning Twitter spree, but said the film offered more than stage costumes and performances. It included old footage in which her 18-year-old self explained the career she intended to build, as well as much more vulnerable material from the tour.

Perry called the film an “event” rather than simply a documentary and said its central message was to remain yourself instead of allowing other people to change you. She described Tokyo as her favourite destination, praised its futuristic atmosphere and recalled visiting a café where customers paid to drink coffee among cats. Despite playing 124 tour dates, she claimed to have woken without knowing where she was only about three times.

Greg James’s second night in Scotland had taken him into a family’s home on their 25th wedding anniversary. Grimmy confronted him with exaggerated claims from daughter Lindsay that he had drunk an entire bottle of whisky, tried on one of her mother’s dresses, walked around naked and accidentally taken her father’s wallet. The true highlight involved the mother climbing inside Greg’s onesie while he wore it, leaving him visibly alarmed in the resulting photograph.

Beccy and Chris Smith finished with an Oh, What’s Occurring? quiz based on celebrity workout DVDs. Beccy’s large collection gave her an advantage as she identified Jennifer Ellison’s Fat Blaster and Natalie Cassidy’s Then and Now. Other answers included Mel B, Nelly and Patsy Palmer, whose unexpectedly named Urban Workout caused the greatest confusion.
