Conor Maynard gets soaked as Grimmy arrives late
Grimmy reached the studio 22 minutes late after watching Katy Perry’s new 3D film and interviewing her at a London hotel. He had spent the opening section speaking from a taxi, blaming an interview scheduled shortly before the programme and traffic around Piccadilly Circus. He had also watched the first 15 minutes of the film without his 3D glasses because he assumed the blurred image was a faulty preview copy.
Conor Maynard faced Radio 1’s Reanna in Innuendo Bingo, with Reanna protecting herself in a plastic skirt while Conor prepared to attend Perry’s premiere that evening. Clips about tennis balls, soft pornography, a rusty chopper and the number 69 steadily soaked them both. Reanna deliberately aimed at Conor, who tried to remain dry but eventually had water running from his nose and down his clothes.
After drying off, Conor discussed the speed of his rise and the fans who had found his home. Some screamed and knocked at the door for long periods, forcing him to check secretly who was outside and plan a move. He also described travelling by helicopter to perform at Asda’s headquarters as one of his biggest pop-star moments and said the volume of screaming fans had been one of the greatest shocks.
Conor looked ahead to his debut album, which included work connected with Frank Ocean, Pharrell Williams and Rita Ora. He said Pharrell had been both exceptionally creative and surprisingly relaxed, spending time playing Mario Kart on the Wii. Conor also said he would consider dating a fan if they met naturally and he liked them, rather than dismissing the possibility outright.
Greg James reported back from his first night staying with a listener in Glasgow. He had been blindfolded unnecessarily on the journey, walked into trees while being guided to the flat, shared a traditional Scottish curry with his hosts and woken at four in the morning wondering why he was in a stranger’s bed. Listener Phoebe later described being mistaken for Georgia May Jagger and Sienna Miller while modelling naked beneath a fur coat on London Bridge.
