Scott’s birthday brings B.o.B and a secret Rihanna reveal
Emma introduced the show with a tale of having to sober up two cats after they found and drank a smashed bottle of wine. Scott sympathised with the stress of looking after somebody else’s pet, remembering his own difficult attempt to get an elderly dog on to a bus.
A listener then rang to ask whether Chris had cooked the dishwasher fish. He had not, explaining that it was his birthday and he did not want to risk food poisoning before an important programme the following day. The caution was sensible, although it disappointed everyone who had become invested in the experiment.
Chris then broke the embargo slightly by telling the caller that Rihanna was due in the next day. He made her promise not to tell anybody, stressing that she was the only person he had told and he would know where the story had come from, before Scott discussed the heavily guarded screening he had attended of Battleship.
With Beccy away on a team-bonding course and Chris absent, Scott welcomed B.o.B to the studio. The pair compared sunglasses, including Scott’s questionable Turkish “Louis Vuitton” pair, and B.o.B explained why he liked South by Southwest’s city-wide festival atmosphere.
Scott also tried to broker a collaboration between B.o.B and David Hasselhoff, who he said remained keen for a new hit after Jump in My Car. B.o.B did not commit himself beyond saying he would work on it, but he was relaxed company and gave Scott exactly the kind of interview in which holiday sun cream, diva bodyguards and airport sunglasses all seemed like essential subjects.
