Beccy’s Alan Titchmarsh mission and Scott’s plan to become a taxidermist
The programme began with Matt’s near miss on Jungle Run, where a badly handled log almost struck Michael Underwood. It prompted listeners to share their own accidental celebrity collisions, with the team treating every near-miss as though television history had narrowly been changed forever.
Beccy was back from her afternoon at The Alan Titchmarsh Show and brought evidence of her supposed “Go on, pigs” outburst. Her audio sounded convincing enough to impress Scott, complete with the impression that she had shouted it into a round of applause for a guest.
The team also heard an American radio interview in which Alan Titchmarsh was introduced in increasingly confused fashion. That was enough to fuel more affection for the presenter, while Beccy delighted in the rituals of being among the programme’s devoted daytime-TV regulars.
Scott’s newly announced interest in taxidermy had developed rapidly in Beccy’s absence, while Chris’s sudden Les Misérables ambition was still causing concern. Beccy’s return gave everyone an opportunity to point out that the lads had made questionable life decisions remarkably quickly without her there to object.
The day was held together by the ever-growing Archers catchphrase, by Beccy’s account of the Titchmarsh audience and by Scott’s readiness to turn a harmless radio joke into a bigger campaign. Whether the shout had really happened was left hanging just long enough for the show to enjoy it.
