Sweaty cheese face, Beccy’s Magic 8 Ball and Greg and Dev’s band
Tom introduced the programme by explaining that cheese and egg yolks gave him a sweaty face, while chocolate could make him sneeze. His girlfriend reportedly had the same cheese-related reaction, allowing Scott to decide they had found each other through the unlikely compatibility of “sweaty cheese face”. Beccy, who once ate enough triangle cheese to be ill the next day, was not put off cheese at all.
Beccy then revealed her newest office obsession: a Magic 8 Ball found among unwanted freebies. Rather than merely playing with it, she had used it to answer almost every message she received, including one from Scott about an episode of The Hotel. Her replies, “Outlook not so good”, “Very doubtful” and “It is decidedly so”, persuaded him that she might be in trouble and need money before he finally worked out what was happening.
The reconstructed text exchange made the joke even better, as Scott realised he had spent a considerable time attempting a normal conversation with the random answers. Beccy encouraged listeners to try replying “Concentrate and ask again” to their own messages, though the team sensibly ruled out “Outlook not so good” because it was far too capable of starting a real panic.
Another Archers phrase was added to the growing collection when EastEnders’ Bianca was heard saying “Come on, kids”. Scott and Chris decided that, although it had the same basic rhythm as “Go on, pigs”, it simply did not have the same magic. Chris then played the Comments Game with entertainment journalist Chris Smith, turning half-understood online reactions into guesses about celebrity news stories.
During the handover, Greg James explained that Dev had proposed they form a band, with Dev on guitar and Greg on piano. Scott was immediately keen to book their barely formed group, possibly called Double Vision, into the Live Lounge, while everyone used the famously patchy history of radio-DJ chart singles to set expectations. It was an appropriately precarious ending to a show already ruled by a Magic 8 Ball.
