Sara prepares for Strictly and discovers her mum’s verdict on her childhood
Sara’s final cover show began with a warning for anyone who had missed the week: Scott was on holiday and would return on Monday, presumably with duty-free shopping and a tan. Sara was preparing for a very different weekend, with an appearance on the Strictly Come Dancing red-button coverage and a daunting amount of dance-style make-up ahead.
Her mum Jackie was visiting, officially to see the grandchildren but also because she was keen to be in the Strictly audience and see Harry Judd. Beccy had used the visit productively, recording questions about Sara as a child and setting up a quiz in which Sara would have to guess her mum’s answers.
The promised mum-versus-daughter game gave the programme a warm family element, with Sara facing the risk of being exposed as a child who had been far more work than she remembered. She approached it with the same cheerful self-awareness she brought to the Strictly preparation, including the prospect of a deliberately overdone television outfit.
The conversation moved easily between family, television and the small practical details of a Friday. Sara was happy to laugh at herself, whether it was her image in ballroom-style costume or the prospect of discovering that her own mother had a much sharper memory of her childhood.
