Scott finds Amsterdam’s answer to Cheaper Street and sets homework on CVs
After a weekend in Amsterdam, Scott decided to find a Dutch equivalent of Cheaper Street. He called it “Dom Straat” and went out with a question designed to produce the same beautifully unfiltered answers as the feature’s London version: who was the best person ever?
The standout answer came from a man whose hero was Mr Bean. He attempted to describe the episode in which Bean stands on a swimming-pool diving board, but became so overcome by the memory that he could barely finish the explanation. Scott loved the recording, especially the conviction that this single scene settled the question of the world’s greatest person.
Back in the studio, the programme joined the BBC’s Up for Hire week by telling listeners to update their CVs. Scott and Beccy admitted they had left theirs untouched for far too long, and both remembered adding hobbies such as swimming, football or even horse riding mostly because they thought prospective employers expected to see them.
They urged listeners to use the online “Get Yourself Hired” test and make a proper start rather than postponing it. The plan was for Scott and Beccy to have their own CVs assessed the following day, which left them particularly worried about the personal statement and how to sound confident without writing something wildly self-important.
The show also followed up Beccy’s hairdresser “cheating” by introducing her regular hairdresser Jamie, newly working on The X Factor. He explained that contestants’ hair involved mood boards, conditioning and a wider style team, while Scott and Beccy concentrated on the more pressing questions: whether Frankie Cocozza’s hair ought to be washed, and how much responsibility Jamie could possibly take for Kitty’s ever-changing look.
