Scott launches the Comments Game and plans a secret date with Beccy
The show began with another look at the Innuendo Bingo Duel, which Scott described as one of the best editions they had made. Elisa’s challenge to Beccy had produced a particularly soaked studio, and the team sent listeners to the video with the suitably chaotic description “two girls, one bin”.
Scott and Beccy were unusually dressed up because they were going out together that evening. They insisted it was not a date, but their reluctance to name the event made the build-up more suspicious: it was an Audience With… recording for a performer Beccy had previously called the best live act she had seen.
Listeners began guessing from the clues, suggesting everyone from Jedward to Cliff Richard. Scott kept refusing to say the name, while giving away just enough to make the answer increasingly obvious: Barry Manilow, whose appeal Scott found both slightly embarrassing and impossible to deny.
The day also introduced the Comments Game. Scott read comments left beneath celebrity-news stories and asked Beccy and Mistajam to work out the subject and headline, enjoying the peculiar logic and occasional hostility of online comment sections without needing the original story to be sensible.
Chris was absent from the studio but appeared by phone as the Sexy Mexican, claiming he had spent the day helping people on the Underground and making sure they minded the gap. Scott’s new game, Beccy’s secret outing and Chris’s low-level superheroism gave the programme several separate ideas, all held together by the team’s determination to make ordinary behaviour sound dramatic.
