Scott decides he can predict the future as Cher Lloyd visits
An email from a listener in Austria set Scott off on a new theory: he could predict the future. The listener had collected examples of things discussed on the programme that later appeared to come true, from Nicole Scherzinger and The X Factor to the likely success of Adele’s forthcoming album.
Scott’s strongest piece of evidence was Jennifer Lopez. When she had appeared on the show the previous week, he had asked whether she worried about a wardrobe malfunction, only for reports of one to emerge after a performance days later. Scott took the coincidence as proof, while Beccy and Chris sensibly treated it as evidence that he talked enough for something eventually to happen.
Listeners quickly tested the alleged gift, asking for lottery numbers and offering increasingly silly predictions for Scott to make. He happily accepted the responsibility, including a message supposedly foreseeing a romance involving Beccy and “John the Eggman from Angus”. The point was less prophecy than Scott’s enjoyment of stretching a coincidence into a major new talent.
Cher Lloyd then joined the programme, arriving with plenty of her self-described “Brats” waiting outside Radio 1. She admitted she still found the crowds daunting, even while promising fans she would stop for them, and explained that the nickname had grown out of Simon Cowell calling her a brat during The X Factor.
Scott also remembered visiting Cher’s homecoming in Malvern during the X Factor final, a moment he described as one of television’s most extraordinary spectacle. The programme paired her candid, slightly nervous interview with the running psychic joke and the return of Just for the Pun of It, giving the day both a proper guest and the familiar sense of nonsense around her.
