Scott began his first Breakfast Show cover with a complaint about the classic shirtless bathroom-mirror profile picture. He and the listeners agreed that a carefully posed photo became much less impressive once the phone, shampoo bottles and, in the worst cases, the toilet behind the subject came into view. Scott’s verdict was simple: put some clothes on if it is going to be a Facebook or Twitter profile picture.
Chris Stark was again using the studio as a warm, dry base while still looking for work. His latest theory was that Greg James had the potential to become Radio 1’s version of Charlie Sheen. Scott thought this was an absurd prediction, so Chris constructed a mock news report in which Greg was sacked after a spectacular rant at the controller and announced that he had “magic and poetry” in his fingertips.
The pair also returned to Chris’s proposed fly-on-the-wall documentary, It’s Chris. Chris described his typical day as a shower, sausages from the butcher, FIFA, a curry and more FIFA, which Scott insisted was exactly why listeners would watch. The team began commissioning theme tunes, with Chris still trying to prevent the whole project turning into a Batman programme.
Jennifer Lopez then joined Scott from Los Angeles. Scott admitted that he had been enjoying her on American Idol, and Jennifer said she had expected the judging job to be fun but had not realised quite how much she would enjoy it. Scott, naturally, initially hoped she might be calling from home so he could be given a guided tour of her house.
Their chat also touched on the extraordinary attention around The Back-up Plan, including the claim that one brief moment had become one of cinema’s most-paused scenes. Jennifer took the revelation in good humour, leaving Scott with a properly starry interview amid the week’s much less glamorous discussions about bathroom selfies and Chris’s television ambitions.
