One autograph had become a preservation project

A listener had Pete Wentz’s signature on her chest and was trying to keep it intact even as it smudged. Scott was fascinated less by the celebrity than by the practice itself: why did people ask musicians and presenters to sign their bodies?

Scott admitted he had done plenty of them

Student gigs had given Scott repeated experience of being asked to sign boobs. The confession led into stories about permanent marker, washing and the odd social ritual of treating skin as memorabilia.

Dr Pepper waited for Chinese Democracy

The programme also picked up the soft-drink company’s promise to give Americans a free can if Guns N’ Roses finally released Chinese Democracy during 2008. James Bond audio and a count of romantic encounters from the films added another pop-culture obsession to a day already concerned with promises, signatures and things fans had been waiting years to see.
