19 September 2008: Scott feared It’s Only Bley Friday had finally broken his voice

The Friday shout stopped cooperating

It’s Only Bley Friday normally depended on Scott launching himself into the familiar shout, but this time his voice refused to behave. The failed attempt became more entertaining than a successful one would have been, with Scott wondering whether years of doing it had finally caught up with him and listeners offering speech-therapy advice.

Dita Von Teese appeared on Beccy Cam

Dita Von Teese became the latest high-profile visitor to appear on the webcam. Her presence also prompted the team to debate where burlesque ended and stripping began, with the programme predictably less interested in reaching a definitive answer than in hearing everyone try to define the difference.

Minder wanted Scott involved

The revival of Minder entered the conversation with talk of Scott appearing as a wedding guest or extra. That inevitably reopened old jokes about Gary Webster and Scott’s supposed history with the programme. Even a possible television cameo could not compete with the day’s main crisis: whether Scott still possessed the physical ability to shout Friday properly.
