11 February 2008: Skins Cast Interview and Flirt Divert Serial Daters

Scott welcomes Michelle, Maxie and Chris from the hit teen drama Skins to discuss the new series, but the conversation is frequently derailed by increasingly bizarre Flirt Divert voicemails—including a guy called Mickey who only dates girls whose names rhyme with his, and another caller who’s managed to date eleven different Janes.

The episode features an extended interview with the cast of Skins ahead of the show’s return on Monday. Michelle (April Pearson), Maxie (Mitchell Hewer) and Chris (Joe Dempsie) discuss the shock ending of series one, where Tony was hit by a bus, and tease the darker tone of series two while promising there’s still humour throughout. They reveal that Bill Bailey will play Maxie’s dad in the new series and share behind-the-scenes stories, including a hilarious account of filming a skinny-dipping scene on a Welsh beach where families on holiday were not pleased to see the cast.

Running throughout the interview are increasingly amusing Flirt Divert answer-phone messages. Scott and the team highlight the phenomenon of “serial same-name daters”—callers who only date people with the same name or rhyming names. Mickey is featured reading an awkward poem to try to woo a girl whose name rhymes with his (having previously dated Nikki, Ricky, Dickie and Tricky). Even more impressive is Paul, who claims to have dated eleven different Janes, three of them simultaneously. The show also plays an infamous Australian news interview with a teenager named Corey who threw a massive house party while his parents were away, resulting in £20,000 of damage and a confrontation with a news reporter over his refusal to remove his sunglasses and apologize.
