Scott and Laura launch a tongue-in-cheek romantic novel writing venture, unveiling the first two chapters of “A Long Hot Summer” under the pen name Stephanie Black, complete with dramatic readings featuring some memorable accents from the team.
Following a discussion about the popularity of romantic fiction among young people (not just older readers, as Scott initially believed), Scott and Laura decide to write their own romance novel. They debut chapter one, featuring characters Susan and Tyler, with a Mediterranean accent providing much of the humour. The response from listeners is enthusiastic, with text feedback ranging from appreciation to requests for cold showers.
A caller named Luke rings in to ask for advice after overdoing it on a sunbed before a date—a conversation that spirals into a comedy segment with Scott sharing his own embarrassing sunbed mishap in York, where he had to buy aftersun cream in Boots while covering his face. This leads to other team members sharing similar stories of sunburn disasters.
The show then switches gears to the “Great Grape Challenge,” where the team attempts to fit as many grapes as possible into their mouths within a time limit. Previous record holders include Pierre from Simple Plan (31 grapes) and Grimmy (28). Joe Cole takes a turn and manages an impressive effort, though the segment devolves into good-natured disgust at the inevitable drooling.
By popular demand, Scott and Laura return later in the show to perform chapter two of “A Long Hot Summer,” this time with Chopper delivering a Texan accent for the character Zack. The chapter introduces a completely different storyline and set of characters from chapter one, which prompts Scott to joke about the lack of continuity in their literary masterpiece. The team invites Mills & Boon to get in touch if they need additional writers.
