28 March 2007: The Wrong Burger 911 Call

Scott and the team play an extraordinary 911 call from a woman in California who calls emergency services multiple times because Burger King keeps getting her Western burger order wrong — and the bewildered dispatcher’s increasingly exasperated responses are comedy gold.

The show features an audio clip of a real 911 call that has become an internet talking point. A frustrated woman repeatedly rings emergency services from what she initially claims is San Clemente, later saying she’s in another location, because a Burger King has failed to make her Western burger correctly despite her asking four times. She’s adamant she won’t leave until she gets what she ordered. The 911 dispatcher — audibly confused and remarkably patient — tries to explain that this is not a police matter and suggests she speak to the manager instead. The caller becomes increasingly indignant, insisting that the dispatcher should protect her, that she pays her taxes, and that this is a genuine emergency. The dispatcher’s repeated attempts to clarify (“What are we protecting you from a wrong cheeseburger?”) only fuel her frustration. Eventually, the dispatcher suggests she ask for a refund and go home, but the caller seems determined to get her burger made correctly or die trying. Scott and the team find the clip hilarious, with particular amusement at how the woman keeps returning to her demand for the burger to be made right and her genuine bewilderment that 911 won’t intervene in a burger dispute.
