Just like buses, you wait for one reviewer and two come at once! Enjoy…
This one's by Luke.
Are all you treacle’s alright today? Its Wednesday, 4 o’clock, and its live. It’s the Scott Mills show on the world’s greatest radio station – Radio 1. Just as we’re all sure to hear Kate Thornton say – “Your vote will REALLY count – there’s only 0.25% between each of the acts” on The X Factor finals, we all know by now we’re in for a good – nay – a great, 3 hours of commercial free radio.
And so with 3 in a row, we kick off the show. The great tunes start things off as per usual but we’re missing Scott today due to illness and possibly a few too many glasses of white wine – but never fear – Chappers is here. The show must go on and it definitely will with a little help from Laura and the ones that don’t speak to bridge the gaps.
LAURA THE VIGILANTE (More guts than Robocop and more upfront than Simon Cowell on a bad day)
Now, even though Scott’s not here, today – a special treat – Scott Mills Gold. It does just what it says on the tin – some of the best bits over the last 2 years are going to be played throughout the show today – featuring Laura the Vigilante and THAT one with the dog… YES!!!
Back in May Laura went out to the park and ended up “dealing with” the owner of a dog who let his 4 legged friend leave a mess without clearing it up. It really is a classic bit of radio – so listen again to today’s show to hear what happened. Its about 25mins in – so listen again. Just go to Scott’s pages and follow the links to Listen Again at www.bbc.co.uk/radio1.
What I would say at this point is – if you did only start listening to Scott’s show recently – it will definitely be worth listening again to catch up on some things that have happened in the past so hit the link guys.
THE EXPERIMENT (Starring Mark Chapman as ‘The Guinea Pig’)
“The Experiment” has officially been called off for today so keep your Alca Seltza, you’re negative cover holder thing that you get when you develop your photographs, and your can of fizzy pop all as they are until tomorrow. If you haven’t already got all those ingredients you’ve got one more day so hop to it and get hold of them!!! Remember to wait for instructions and DO NOT mix any of those things together until you’re told what to do and how, tomorrow. It’s guaranteed to result in something exploding so please remember you’re safety goggles when you carry out the experiment yourself!!!
So after another 3 in a row, its time for another gold moment from 3 years ago. It’s Scott and he’s drunk after the Brits. He’s clearly been at the wine again, and unfortunately for him, but fortunately for us he’s called in to hit the airwave at 1am. Classic.
THE NEW AND IMPROVED ON HOLD GAME – NOW CLEANS AWAY 99.99% OF ALL STAINS!!!
Now, if you missed it yesterday (where do you go after 6?), and again today – you really have to listen again and hear the new and improved On Hold Game. Fully loaded with brand new Sound FX, the calls are even more random than before. This one features a horse, a cow called Daisy and Chappers going through a lot of pain. Would we want it any other way? And can we please have a minutes silence for the poor sales guy on the receiving end of the phone call.
LAURA’S DIARY – Officially* better than Bridget’s!!! (*by officially I actually mean not officially better than Bridget’s, even though it sooOOoo is)
Laura's Diary
So up next – the legend that is, Laura’s Diary. Yesterday Ben showed Laura that very impressive finger trick where he made his finger disappear, and Laura very very nearly told Ben that she loves him.
Now, I know the tension and suspense is so high that you’ve bitten off all you’re finger nails and you’re about to pull your hair out – so I’ll get to today’s entry.
So over to Mary (Laura’s loving sister) as we travel back in time for today’s entry:
Laura's Diary
Dear Diary,
Just got in from uni. I was really wet by the time I got in so I just changed straight into my pyjamas. I had my first theatre seminar with a graduate assistant called Matt. You can tell all the girls fancy him but I think he loves himself. There’s some properly weird people in my English group too. Most of the look like they could do with a good wash. Matt said he wanted us to get rid of all our inhibitions, so we had to pretend to be dinosaurs, a tree in a particular season, and a utensil you’d find in a kitchen.
It’s not really what I expected. Met Lisa and Lou for lunch. They kept going on about this friend of theirs who they’re trying to set me up with. We’re going out in Southside tomorrow with him and his mates. I’m not really bothered if she’s famous or not to be honest.
My student loan just came in so I’m planning a big one. They just told me to turn my music down. I only had it that loud coz the noises started again upstairs. That couple are really beginning to gross me out. Maybe I should contact the Guinness Book of Records. It always makes me think about Ben. He wrote me a dead nice letter after I left and I got it today. He says that Jenny’s not talking to him, but his mum thinks I’m lovely and then it all got a bit fruity towards the end. I quite liked it and I cant stop thinking about it. I miss him. And I miss his touch. The boys have just got in so I might go and see Alan in a bit.
Love,
Laura.
After that excerpt, and Run It by Chris Brown, an ad plays for the new series of The Apprentice. Almost straight after a lot of people point out that Trevor off of Fridays Flirt Divert (who sings the short song) sounds a lot like Alan Sugar off of the apprentice. So check that one out and hit the forums if you agree or not.
CLASSIC MILLS – BUSTED – Sprinkle with sugar and spice and all things nice…
I’m not going to say what exactly happens in this busted – just the problem. I’ll just really really advise you to listen again and hear exactly what happens on the call – its around 2 hours and 10mins into the show. This is the problem:
A guy calls in to say that he was clearing out his stuff as he left for university. He had a box of videos. So he took them with him and decided one day that he’ll watch a video, which started as an episode of Cracker. Then after some noise, it cuts suddenly into a shot of his dad backing away from the camera wearing pretty much nothing and then being joined by his mum. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! Rather than keeping it quiet – he decides to call Scott and the team to get his parents BUSTED! To find out what happens listen again or put in a request at the forums to get the download!!!
That classic Busted is followed by another selection of slurs from a very very tipsy Scott after The Brits.
Your Call
So 6.30pm and it’s another round of Your Call. Call 08700 100 100 or text 81199 to get your requests in each and every day from 6.30pm. Remember – if you missed today’s show, don’t just read about it – listen to it. Just go to www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 and listen again to any shows, any place, any time!!!
Tune in tomorrow for “The Experiment,” the next instalment of Laura’s Diary, and so much more as Scott returns to the airwaves.
