  1. Is it weird I genuinely feel a bit sad today.

Jordan and whoever he was with or alone often made me feel happier with whatever was happening in my life/the world.  When you hear the tributes rightly paid to Steve Wright this week, you realise that's what broadcasting is all about.  Not saying Jordan is necessarily in Steve's class but he is certainly well above average and a huge loss.

When Scott left I think I only stayed with Radio 1 as I like Greg and loved Jordan... now I see no reason to stay especially as if Jordan is doing breakfast on Capital and I prefer him to Greg.

long time forum lurker & listener to scott mills & radio 1. i remember when chris was scotts friend on Tuesdays & Thursdays. 24 yrs at tap end the 1st time. & thought this was the best place to get questions from people more knowledgeable about radio than me

this news about jordan is huge. its made sense to me longer since i heard it. because Greg popularity & enthusiasm will keep him in that job for a while yet & even if jordan hypothetical started on monday he wouldve been the 3rd oldest breakfast show host in its history to start. but this what im interested in is how did Radio 1 get into such a mess where greg james will delighted by the news now because hes bulletproof, he is arguably the only star they have left. but by may 2026 i believe he overtake steve wright & become oldest DJ to host the R1 breakfast show.

but there is nobody that looks like the natural successor.
    ricky & Melvin are 43 charlies 38
    matt edmonson 39?
Mollie King Jamie laing Arielle Free 36
katie thisleton soon to be 35
    Jordan & vick 34

If greg does stay for a few years you cant have a someone starting a breakfast show at the age Chris Moyles left it. im probably wrong but ive heard that only 2 in right age bracket are dean & vicky. but rumour is there RAJAR listening figures arent great

is this bad planning by radio 1. have the youth radio station has forgotten to blood their youth is there a lack of talent on the way or just not given a change, why hasnt  recent winner or winners of student radio awards been on 4am slot like Greg, Scott & Chris moyles were

To me the succession plan must be something along the lines....

Move Sam and Danni to daytime in the next year - either replacing RMC or Vick and Jamie which simply can't last.  Let them get a bit more experience then give them Breakfast.  With Jordan gone, they are the only viable plan unless they let Katie do it alone from Manchester.

Absolutely. In the absence of Jordan, I see them as next in line for the Breakfast Show now - assuming that Vick is on her way out and Matt/Mollie don’t get it.

Aside from Katie - I think Sam and Danni would be the best choice now.

Though hey - for Radio 1 fans of recent years, Jordan North and Chris Stark at Breakfast on Capital is a hard one to pass by..

I wouldn’t be surprised if Vick isn’t on Going Home for the next couple of weeks and they stick Arielle or Sam and Danni on it, firstly so that Vick hasn’t got a very awkward show on Monday to deal with and secondly so they can launch the show fresh on the 4th March.

I could really see this happening.....

The last time I recall a daytime presenter from daytime leaving at this speed was when Chris Evans walked out/was fired !

Would also make sense with that team meal they posted on Instagram stories yesterday. it was a running thing on the show that they never get round to meeting up outside of the show; sure it was Jordan’s birthday this week but they did gifts live on the show, so combined as a leaving meal too perhaps?

You can't imagine the dinner wasn't linked to his departure.  He isn't the sort of guy that wouldn't have told them.

Yeah I suppose it does look too official to be a prank... and they wouldn't announce a replacement if it were all false I guess. It just seems hard to believe.  And hard to understand why it wouldn't be Katie instead of Jamie - unless she turned it down

Remember Katie has her life in Manchester so a permanent move to London might not be an option.

But I'd have been happy with her as a replacement. Jamie I find unlistenable.

I’m a bit surprised that Vick has stayed too. I thought that if Jordan went, she would go with him really and then have a whole new line up at drive.

It’s a shame the Vick and Jordan (and Katie) partnership only lasted a couple of years because it was by far my favourite on radio 1

Given where Vick's life is I can't see her wanting to do a daily radio show for too much longer.  She is a strong independent woman but you imagine the commitment is incompatible with where her life is at.

I think given how brief the statement is on R21 social, it's either got to be a prank for Mega Massive Monday as someone else mentioned, or that he is moving to another station. Very sad if he really is leaving... although I agree that he would be great with Chris and Sian on Capital!

In a week when we have been talking about the genius of Steve Wright, Jordan is undoubtedly one of the best broadcasters of his generation - he simply must have something big lined up.

  9. Jordan turned 34 this week.  As I have said before if he didn't get breakfast ASAP he was never going to get it so if he had a big offer elsewhere, you can see why he'd snap it.

His podcast has become absolutely huge over the past year too.

I honestly think this could be the point where I tune out of Radio 1 after Greg (unless Jordan is doing Breakfast somewhere).  I stuck with Dean and Vicky simply as I didn't bother tuning out to come back but I can't listen to Jamie Laing so.

  10. A lot of the people passing comments clearly haven’t read what Gambo said. Essentially Steve Wright had lots of commercial offers after the Big Show ended but he stayed with the BBC as he could only do what he loved there and he still had two good shows per week and new stuff. He wasn’t axed.

I don't think whatever they do will be long term, they are both now in their 60s. I'm guessing some form of tour, podcast/radio show. I wonder though, just wonder if the best band in the world ever may be involved. The Shirehorses.

Covering for Lauren Laverne on 6 Music Breakfast :)   I loved their Chris Evans Breakfast covers when they were just having fun.  When they got breakfast it was obvious they were under too much pressure, though it was still great.

Yes, think definately given a good shake of any ageist attitudes could ever had about the roster of line-up of radio 1 right now. Pete Tong caught his show the other night knowing he was doing a tribute but heard him playing some favourites and new finds. A listened to his show few times few years back think the past few days has me thinking need to listen to some more of radio 1 mixing it up with 6 and stuff like that.

As with 1Xtra I see it as a station that now with having presenters like Trevor Nelson, Seani B, Rodigan, Heartless Crew and Rampage assume the ages that fit the Radio 2 average presenter age. I see it as a station that celebrates the past, present and future of black music and black culture and should be that.

I love that we have presenters who could retire to present nostalgia driven shows on Radio 2 or Greatest Hits but it’s good to have 60s+ whether its Pete Tong, David Rodigan, Steve Lamarq, Tom Robinson, Iggy Pop and even Elton John (on Apple Music 1) having older presenters playing newer stuff. I don’t get how all you’d want to listen to is the music of your teenage years.

And indeed that's why I am still a Radio 1 listener at 46.  I still want to discover new music.   You can never beat that feeling at getting excited by something you are hearing for the first time..

Seems so different to when John peel died that seemed like days of mourning

We can imagine that Annie has been ill for some weeks and the news was half-expected and the response planned.

John Peel's death (at 65) was very sudden and unexpected and that can affect the tone a lot more.

Respectably, I expect it won’t be something the station would be thinking about right now.

They can easily keep the slot as it has been lately for a while without saying much.

It would be nice to keep the spirit of Annie by placing an innovative up and coming female DJ in that slot.
