closer to 30 years actually, 26 to be precise
He's been on in the afternoon on Radio 1 & 2 for 20 years. He was on early breakfast for the first 5 years of his Radio 1 career, then moved to weekend afternoons in 2004, then drivetime in the same year.

Scott's last day on afternoons after 20 years tomorrow!

Not really, people like different things. Doesn't make them 'easily pleased'. I wasn't a fan of the afternoon show but in my opinion he's a perfectly competent presenter.
The hate has been disproportionate from the social media mob, but he hasn't done himself many favours. Whether it was just 'for the cameras' or not, his personality didn't come across maybe how he wanted it to.

Steffan Powell (former Radio 1 Newsbeat presenter/newsreader) is sitting in for Owain Wynn Evans on New Year's Day/2nd/3rd January.
A few other schedule changes going into December:
Shaun Keaveny in for Liza Tarbuck tonight (30th November)
Tina Daheley in for Jeremy Vine on Tuesday 3rd December
Jason Mohammed in for Owain on Friday 6th December.
Romesh off again next week (7th) so Emma Willis sits in
Nick Grimshaw in for Rylan on Saturday 14th, 21st and 28th (I assume he's in the following Saturday as well with Rylan still in Panto).

Jane McDonald is also live.
The press release said that, but it also states on the press release that Mark Goodier will be live as well, which is certainly not correct as the Pick Of The Pops Christmas special is already available on Sounds. Jane pre recorded last year's Christmas day special, along with the two bank holiday shows she did earlier in the year. I stand to be corrected though 🤷

NYE afternoon/evening is:
12-2 Sophie Ellis Bextor's NYE Kitchen Disco
2-4 Sounds Of the 60's with Tony Blackburn
4-6 Sounds Of The 70's with Bob Harris
6-8 Sounds Of The 80's with Gary Davies
8-10 Sounds Of The 90's with Owain Wynn Evans
Michelle Visage's NYE Party (live from LA)
A few other bits included 4-6pm on Christmas Eve is Richie Anderson's Driving Home For Christmas and Tony Blackburn's Sounds Of Soul 12-2pm on Boxing Day.
-
Christmas Day and NYE on Radio 2 is similar to last year:
25th December
6-8am Zoe Ball's Christmas Crooners'
8-10 Good Morning Christmas with Rev. Kate Botley
10-12 Junior Choice with Anneka Rice
12-2 Jane Mcdonald
2-4 Gary Davies
4-7 Pick Of The Pops Christmas special (1974, 1984 and 1994)
7-8 Mariah Carey's Christmas Hour
8-10 Beverley Night's Gospel Christmas
10-12 Trevor Nelson's Gospel Christmas.
Kate Botley, Junior Choice and Gary Davies are live as usual.

Romesh away again this week. Emma Willis has been presenting the show today.
-
Nick Grimshaw in for Rylan on Saturday 14th and 21st December.
Christmas week is slowly starting to update. Ellie Brennan is listed on overnight, Gaby Roslin on breakfast, Gary Davies on mid morning and Spoony on mid afternoon.

I think Tina could possibly stay unless she wants to explore other opportunities in her own right
Richie probably needs to have other opportunities
She'd probably be first in line for whenever Jeremy calls time on the lunchtime slot, Although i personally think she will eventually end up as one of the main faces of the News at Six and Ten on BBC One (she's already an occasional presenter of both).
I can't see them removing Tina & Richie from breakfast. Richie is the morning travel presenter regardless as he goes onto present the travel bullitens in Vernon's show. I must admit though, Ellie Brennan worked well with Scott and Tina when she was on one of the weeks in for Richie.

Some say Jo Whiley was overlooked for daytime but I think she still sounds great on evenings and she seems quite happy there.
She suits the slot she's in. Same reason I think Trevor moving to daytime is a bit leftfield. I'm sure he'll do a good job there but I think he's best place where he's playing music he loves and is knowledgeable about.
-
Spoony in for Scott tomorrow. He's covering 'at least' two weeks from Monday 9th November.
-
I'm just catching up with this news so... Scott to breakfast, Trevor to afternoons, Spoony to the late show (is it still 'the Rhythm Nation's?), Sophie Ellis Bextor replacing Spoony on Friday nights. Is Zoe leaving Radio 2 then?
-
Blimey. Wasn't expecting to log on to read this. Great news for Scott. It's a shame OJ hasn't got the afternoon show, could've moved it to Salford at the same time. I feel he's been overlooked for this. Trevor's current show is the perfect format for him so a bit of an odd choice.
He's a good presenter, don't get me wrong. I just think he'll actually be wasted playing playlist music. It's brilliant that Scott's finally got the breakfast show after all these years of being a stand in on R1/2

I agree it’s lazy radio and the shows should have features. Even get someone like Ore doing a breakfast show and the rest being anthems.
I missed the days where it was 'normal' personality led shows (even if it was different music, but it was without the pre mixed 'blocks') and the 'B' team such as Adele Roberts Matt Edmondson, Dev etc. stepped up (with Scott & Chris on Breakfast).
-
Some good changes there. Well deserved for James Cusack and Sam & Danni. Having a duo on weekend afternoons is a good move and it means they won't go back to just two days. Great to see James Cusack on board finally as well. His cover stint over the summer really impressed me and he's done lots of cover for the past couple of years, so good to see it's finally paid off.
Jeremiah covering for Mollie is an interesting one. I was expecting them to have another female presenter such as Maia Beth or Lauren Layfield stand in. However... Jerry from the bits I've heard of him is entertaining and definitely has that potential to successfully cross over from specialist to a mainstream daytime show so no complaints there.

Tina Daheley is in for Jeremy Vine again for a week starting Monday 9th December
Spoony sits in for Scott Mills also from Monday 9th December.
-
Richie Anderson in for Scott on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th December.

Rylan covered for Matt on radio 1
I know he did,it wasn't great either from what I remember, but he's definitely grown as a radio presenter since then.
Radio 1 are one of a few stations that can be praised with giving chances for younger presenters from a radio background with the Christmas takeover/Friday early breakfast, the recent weekend afternoon rotation etc. Sam & Danni are the most recent success story. Came through the Christmas presenters slot a few years ago, to getting the weekend breakfast show after lots of cover slots.

Thing is with TV presenters they have already halfway worked their way there in a very similar industry. I mean times where celebs are just bought in because of their name and it's a kick in the balls to very good presenters already out there. Some examples do deserve a chance, Jarvis Cocker with 6 Music for example. But picking the ones who just sit there and giggle at stupid jokes with no proper content, I've found there's been way too much of over the past 2 decades or so.
I know some will disagree but Rylan is another example. He only covered Zoe Ball's Saturday show once, then got the show full time. I think he's turned out to be a great presenter who works well bouncing off his on air team (Sally, Lottie). The show is pitched perfectly for a Saturday afternoon. He's knowledgeable on a lot of the music he plays as well.
I do agree that there are probably some very talented presenters who have lost out thanks to the big groups buying up loads of local stations, then scaling back local shows to the bare minimum required (which as of now they're no longer required to do), but sadly it's nothing new. There's hardly any 'local stations' to work your way up from nowadays.

True, I do agree with a lot of that. One example though... I don't think Mollie King had much if any broadcasting experience when she joined. They had that period where they paired up Matt Edmondson with some celebrities (I'm assuming for the very reason of having a 'celeb' co presenter). Scarlett Moffatt and Example were also paired with him but they gave Mollie the gig permanently. It definitely paid off as she is arguably one of the best presenters on Radio 1 now. She very much has took it seriously and it's very much her full time career now.

You know what. He's absolutely spot on, I couldn't agree more.
First thing I thought of was about 15 years ago when Kelly Osbourne was handed a Radio 1 show, I mean come on. She never turned up half the time anyway. Radio people need to be like him, Scott, Chris Moyles and Greg James for the more recent generations. You need to have a passion for radio, work your way up and gain experience.
I do agree, partly however... some people who would be considered 'celebrity hires' have worked their way up to where they are now and are very good radio presenters. Mollie King being the most recent example on Radio 1.
Radio 2 for example have had 'entertainment' figures, especially in weekend slots for many years. They're paid to do exactly that... entertain. Where do we draw the line at who counts as a 'proper Radio DJ'. Zoe Ball, Vernon Kay, Sara Cox for example all started out in TV before jumping to radio, but they've done enough radio presenting in high profile slots to be considered 'proper' in my opinion.

Ellie Brennan in for OJ Borg this Thursday (while OJ is in for Scott)
Gary Davies is in for Vernon on Friday 15th, Monday 18th, Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th November.

This feels like a great fit and would be a perfect permanent show if Rylan decided to leave.
Funny how we've got both Nick & Shaun Keaveny doing cover on both Virgin Radio & Radio 2 (plus Grimmy putting in a cover shift over at 6 Music too).
Indeed. Looking forward to hearing Grimmy on Saturday. He did a good job covering for Jo Whiley the other month. Rylan should be off during December as well so hopefully he pops up then as well.
Owain, Vernon, Scott and Rylan are all in panto this year so expect lots of cover presenters during December.

Grimmy in for Rylan on Saturday 4th January
Week Commencing 6th January
Gary Davies is still in for Vernon
Edith Bowman in for Jo Whiley
Spoony is 'in' for Trevor Nelson. I'm not sure whether that means he's finished on Rhythm Nation by this point, but I'm surprised Spoony is covering what is effectively his own slot so close to him taking over with The Good Groove. It also means someone else will be covering the afternoon show... Hopefully OJ Borg.
