Also interestingly seems like it’s just going to Scott on Friday, I wonder if that’s anything to do with Chris not working on Fridays anymore or whether he’s already busy that day. Was it the start of the pandemic that they both covered the breakfast show properly (excluding Christmas etc)

I think they covered it twice during the reduced COVID schedule. Before that.. their last proper 'official cover' was between Christmas and New Year 2018.

  2. It'll be interesting to see if they keep their features covering the breakfast show this week, as I assume they'll still be doing Yesterday's Quiz and 10 minute Takeover... Would they be doing their features alongside?

Shows how dynamic Scott is as a broadcaster. One week covering a mainstream daytime Radio 2 show (the most listened to show), a George Michael song countdown on NYD also on 2 and, albeit short notice... The Radio 1 breakfast show the following week.

  3. I agree. Scott was on form as usual, and his and Chris' No. 2 shows was a brilliant listen. Some forgotten tunes that haven't ever been played or not been played on a long time on Radio 1. The Greg & Rosin Rogue promises was a great idea as well. Perfect to round off the day. In previous years I've switched off after breakfast, but Dean was a good listen and he sounded like he was having a great time on air interacting live with listeners.

Only two minor gripes were breakfast starting at 8 as opposed to 7, and an even minor one... Vick & Jordan's show still being referring to as "Going Home" on Christmas Day (although I acknowledge that is the show brand... and it was effectively a Christmas special of that show).

    He’s on Christmas Day!

Ohh yeah! Thanks for that. How could I forget lol.  Ignore that original comment. I'm looking forward to their show along with the rest of the schedule. Makes a change from the previous years of fill in 'celebrity/popstar takeovers', which is the point I'd tune out. I'll probably be listening most of the day this year

Makes sense though as there will probably be loads of Christmas songs in the chart so having less time to fill will help!

That's true. Although it was listed as finishing at 6 until the past day or two so something's changed. NYE will be the next time we hear Jordan on air next as well. Shame he's not on this week with Vick as it would've likely been an extra fun listen in the run up to Christmas. Hopefully, whatever it is, it's not too serious and he's okay.

Friday 31st Dec the timings have changed slightly:

    16.00-17.30 Chart

    17.30-21.30 James Cusack

    21.30-01.00 Jordan North

And on Thursday 20th Jan Vick is off so it's Jordan and Katie.

Interesting that the timing of the chart has changed... So it's 15 minutes shorter than it'd usually be.. rather than 15 minutes longer (because no Newsbeat)

No Early Breakfast Monday-Thursday next week.

Oh dear... In normal circumstances that would be a very poor show from the BBC... However, it must be behind the scenes staff related... As there cannot be any chance they can't find ANY presenter to cover any of tomorrow/Friday or next week....

Now there have been a couple months to bed in, what do we all think of Aled’s new Radio 1 lineup?

Personally I think weekdays have bedded in really well, with no weak links making it the strongest daytime lineup in years. Greg and Scott sound fresh as ever, reinvigorated even, RMC have adapted to daytime and haven’t been overbearing on the slot, playing plenty of music and keeping it low-key, and Vick and Jordan have become a really strong and natural sounding pairing, easily potential Radio 1 Breakfast material down the line and a very enjoyable listen at drive, plenty of personality. I think Clara had found her natural home on Future Sounds, vastly prefer it to her morning show which never worked for me, and Jack is rapidly becoming a star of evening Radio 1. Power Down is great at the end of the day too! Although I do lament the fact they’ve killed off the evening live programming and basically put it all on tape from 10pm onwards; personally i’d see away Early Breakfast before I cut away live post-10PM programming.

Weekends are also very enjoyable at the moment, Adele always a consummate professional, and Matt and Mollie back on afternoons sounding the strongest they ever have IMO: I was very critical for a time but they’ve grown on me. Dean jarred a little at first, but he clearly gets Radio 1, and more and more his show is sounding top notch, he clearly has a future on the station, and it really underscores what a waste having someone who was such a weak link (Maya Jama) on that primetime weekend slot was.

What are everyone’s thoughts? I’m no uncritical cheerleader, and nothing is without fault (in the past I’ve had some very strong critique of the lineup, and the Friday-Weekend thing annoys me still), but for me this current lineup sound just about right for the times, and hopefully it gets a year or two with no more changes where it can really settle in!

Pretty much in agreement with you on all of those points. Dean has settled in well since I last passed comment a few weeks after the changes.

I can't see anymore changes on Aled's part till part way into 2023 at least. Weekends lost several strong presenters, but a year on and it's still just as good. Some may disagree but, after a year of rotating Friday early breakfast, I personally think they should appoint a permanent set of presenters (cover for early breakfast still rotating). I'd chose Sam & Danni for this who have cropped up a fair bit in the past year covering various slots.

Sian Eleri is in for Clara on Thursday 9th December.

Presumably Monday is when the Christmas and New Year Top Of The Pops specials are being filmed as Jordan is off as well as Clara, and has been announced as the replacement for Fearne Cotton.

New Years Eve is James Cusack from 6pm to 10pm and then Jordan North from 10pm to 1am.

Good to see Jordan still doing the NYE show. It's become almost a tradition now, like Scott on breakfast. I did wonder whether he would still do it or not now he moved to drivetime. Good to see James Cusack pop up again as well.

  11. I like the look of that schedule. I assume Scott & Dean are live, with the rest pre recorded. Shame breakfast doesn't start till 8, I used to like waking up and tuning straight in. The Greg James rogue promises programme sounds interesting indeed. It's a running thing on his show. No 'filler' playlists either. Double Scott Mills on Christmas day too.

Is Arielle off all of December? Or is Jess doing Friday's?

They didn't announce any presenter for December's Friday early breakfast like previous month's, so I assume Jess is doing them in the run up to Christmas.

On a similar note, I was listening back to Friday's show... This month's host, Alex Mansuroglu is a decent listen if anyone hasn't heard him. Am I right he still presents on Kiss at the weekend?

Can’t see that schedule being real either? Why is Best of Breakfast only on for an hour?

As much as I’d love to see a return to that sort of stuff at the end of the year (didn’t Moyles have a whole day of highlights?), it probably won’t happen because of the Christmas intake of presenters?

Pre Christmas Presenters intake... I used to enjoy the themed days across the Christmas period (Greatest Hits/Anthems), Best of the Live Lounge, Big Weekend Highlights, Chart of the year, 10 hour takeover etc.

  14. I'm going to wait to make any firm prediction, but I can't see it being much different to the past couple of years (main presenters finishing week before Christmas, with the 'B team stepping in). Christmas presenters from Boxing Day to NYE/NYD. I think Scott will reveal the Christmas no.1 on Christmas Eve and I'm hopeful he does the Christmas Day breakfast show as is tradition (even if it does fall on a Saturday).

I've enjoyed Jordan doing the New Year's countdown for the past few years but I can see him stepping down from that now he's drivetime host. Dean McCollough or Charlie Hedges would be a good shout for this.

Surely this is fake because in previous years the new presenter Take Over has been for all shows between Boxing Day Breakfast & about 4/5pm on NYE?

It went into NYD last year (minus 6pm-1am on NYE), but yeah, usually starts on Boxing Day. No doubt we'll get anthems shows again. My favourite Christmas Eve programming in the past was when they did a pre recorded 'bangers special' with Scott & Chris some years back. A 10 hour takeover wouldn't be a bad idea... would be better than back to back Christmas hits.

That schedule looks a bit suspect in parts.. Of course it maybe Scott's choice to be off on Christmas Eve (and that's not my business to speculate otherwise) but I can't see him not unveiling the Christmas No.1 for a second year running. There was good excuse on Christmas Day last year with him on Breakfast. We'll find out soon enough I guess.

Maybe her and mollie king both have COVID which is why mollie is off at short notice

I think it was mentioned at the start of the week that Matt Edmondson is solo this weekend. Best New Pop I assume is recorded later in the week, so it's easier to keep the Friday early breakfast host on for an extra half hour to do it live. Either way, whatever reason they're off, it's their business.
