  1. I'm guessing Liverpool. Maybe the Hide & Seek game last year was a big early clue
  2. The press release only said they were starting in 2019 so I suppose it could be any time really, but given that Dev has worked every single day since the 19th October, I'm guessing they'll be switching sooner rather than later.
  3. The Christmas jingles and beds are sounding amazing on the Chart today- they should've been using the beds and Santa jingles since the start of December imo
  4. Thought I'd make a topic just for this so we can share thoughts now and as the shows happen over the festive period. Here's how Christmas & New Year 2018/19 looks on Radio 1 Christmas Eve: Adele Roberts from 4am, 10 Hour Takeover (8am - 6pm) with Scott & Chris from 6.30am, Clara Amfo from 10am, Arielle Free from 1pm, and Jordan North from 4pm Christmas Day: Adele Roberts from 4am, Scott Mills from 6.30am, Superstar Takeover from 10am with Little Mix, HRVY, BTS & Adele Roberts, Charli XCX, The 1975, Ali Plumb's Movie All Stars, then Jordan North from 4pm Boxing Day: Best of the Live Lounge day with Adele Roberts from 4am, Scott & Chris from 6.30am, Clara Amfo from 10am, Arielle Free from 1pm, and Jordan North from 4pm Thursday 27th: Greatest Hits day with Adele Roberts from 4am, Scott & Chris from 6.30am, Clara Amfo from 10am, Arielle Free from 1pm and Jordan North from 4pm Friday 28th: Adele Roberts from 4am, Jordan North from 6am, Maya Jama from 10am, then the Chart of the Year with Dev from 1pm and Scott Mills from 4pm Saturday 29th: Jordan North from 6am, Maya Jama from 10am, Dev from 1pm and Dance Anthems with MistaJam from 4pm Sunday 30th: Jordan North from 6am, Arielle Free from 10am, Dev from 1pm and Katie & Cel from 4pm New Year's Eve Dance Anthems day with Nikki Osborne from 4am, Matt & Mollie from 6.30am, Adele Roberts from 10am, Katie Thistleton from 1pm, Arielle Free from 5pm and Radio 1's Countdown to 2019 with Jordan North from 9pm New Year's Day New Year's Day Mixes with Adam English from 4am, Matt & Mollie from 6.30am, Adele Roberts from 10am, Katie Thistleton from 1pm and Jordan North from 4pm
  5. We're up to Sat 22nd on the schedules at the moment- they usually get well ahead early for Chrirstmas and New Year so I'd say this time next week we'll have the full schedule taking us into January
  6. It happens all the time, it's some sort of technical error when the schedules are released, it'll be corrected as soon as the schedule people notice.
  7. When it actually started, it was literally Nesta saying "so, who's your money on this lunchtime?" four consecutive times. Arguably the funniest thing I've ever heard on Newsbeat
  8. There's an interesting article I was reading not too long ago about playlists (A/B/C list, BBC Introducing etc) and also how they playlist older songs into "Recurrent", "Silver" and "Gold" lists. Worth a read (if you haven't already seen it) for anyone interested. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/1jJsyK6Vt5x3JQgycD9xhdW/heres-how-your-favourite-music-makes-it-to-the-radio-1-playlist
  9. I was literally just thinking that. No imaging at all now, just 47 seconds of Greg talking
  10. I get what you mean. I listen to The Official Chart show every Friday religiously and over the last year especially it has become dominated by music you'd hear on 1Xtra. I'm 19 and I'm not a big fan of rap as a genre on the whole so it's nothing to do with age, people just have different tastes in music. The chart is definitely not fixed, but now they include streaming and video plays in the charts I think it's safe to say that rap's not going anywhere for the time being. As long as young people are listening to it, it'll be in the R1 playlist.
  11. Immediately mentions the time after an awkward silence
  12. True, but they'll probably want all the attention to be on Greg's new show. If he started on 3rd September he'd have to share the limelight with Nick Grimshaw and Jack Saunders
  13. I first started listening around the start of 2011. I came across the weekend schedule first actually which at the time consisted of Edith, Vernon/Sara, Huw and Reggie. I loved it, I'm getting nostalgia thinking back to it now. I just got completely obsessed with everything about the station; the jingles, the features, the music etc. I too am 19 and will probably be giving student radio a try when I go back to university in September (been arsing about making my own podcasts for a few years) so think it's time to take my radio geekery to the next level
  14. They've made a mistake not continuing the Ten Minute Takeover. Everyone seemed to love that and Greg himself said Nick was welcome to it, so surely Dev and Alice would have been too. I do agree they should have made some regular features to do on different days, especially as they're there for six weeks. What we have at the moment is a very generic show with no real excitement. Shame really, Dev and Alice are great presenters (especially Alice).
  15. Scott is doing breakfast week commencing 13th August. Think that must mean he’s doing it all three weeks? Also, Arielle Free covering Dance Anthems On 11th August, and Arielle Free and Will Best sitting in for Dev & Alice on 12th August
  16. Greg's final week on drive this week- looks like Dev and Alice will be taking it for 3 or 4 weeks before Nick Grimshaw takes it over. Still wondering who's going to get the Ten Minute Takeover...
  17. I always remember her first show back with Scott and Chris. One of the most awkward things I've ever listened to.
  18. I think the main problem is she tries to be funny when she’s not, and it ends up making her look like a cringeworthy mess. She’s no Alice Levine that’s for sure.
  19. Some distasteful tweets of Maya’s from 2012 resurfaced the other day. I do wonder whether that’s anything to do with why she’s not on air this weekend...
  20. Apologies TMD_24, I didn’t see the second page!
  21. Twice- on 4th December 2015 and New Year’s Day 2016. Interestingly he also covered it on a Saturday once too sitting in for Danny. Plus, don’t forget, he used to do “Ready For The Weekend” from 6-7pm on Fridays prior to being kicked off drivetime which was pretty similar to the current format of Friday’s Dance Anthems.
  22. These changes are bizarre, I’m not really sure what to make of them. Greatets Hits on a Friday seems unnecessary, especially at a time when they’ve just been told by Ofcom to play more new music. If Maya is getting the Friday show then it would have been nice for Jordan North to get both weekend shows, but it seems as though that’s not going to be the case. Also making the chart show 3 hours long again also seems unnecessary. Really sad to see Friday’s Dance Anthems being scrapped as well, it’s a great way to get ready for the weekend. Speaking of the Official Chart, they will have to stop for Newsbeat anyway, as Ofcom’s guidelines state that Radio 1 “must allocate at least 1 hour to news during the daytime each weekday, including at least two extended bulletins, of which at least one must be in Peak Listening Time”. Radio 1 can try to call Friday the weekend as much as they want, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s actually not.
  23. What I’d do is give Jordan North both Greatest Hits shows, and move Maya Jama to a new Sunday 7-9 slot. Totally agree with you about making the rock show 9-11 and Phil Taggart 11-1. It’s got to the point where it seems as though Phil doesn’t really know what to do with the last hour of the show. When he first took the show over the last hour was mellow music like the first two hours. But then around the time he lost his old Thursday 9-10 show the last hour of the Sunday one just strangely derailed into rock and alternative which really didn’t seem appropriate under the title “The chillest show on planet Earth”. I can only assume that move was to compensate for his lost airtime on a Thursday where he’d normally have played that music, because when the Specialist Chart came into existence last year the final hour returned to something of a more mellow theme, albeit not quite as much as 10-midnight.
  24. Side note, did anyone hear Maya’s newsbeat intro at 13.30 on Christmas Eve? It was so dire it was cringeworthy. She went into it late, and left the headline bed running for the entire bulletin. She ruined it for 1Xtra as well as there was an awkward silence after Reece went into it on time. Exactly the same at 14.30 as well. She REALLY needs to work on her newsbeat intros.
  25. I’m really pleased for Jordan that he finally has his own permanent show, but as has already been pointed out, it’s rather perplexing how they can give only one permanent show to someone who’s been covering for years and was on nearly every day over Christmas & New Year, yet have someone who’s only ever covered a couple of shows two permanent shows. I’m also at a loss to why they’ve transformed the weekend 1-4 show, which has historically been a music focused show with a couple of entertainment features (with Jo Whiley, Huw Stephens, Alice Levine etc) into what will undoubtedly be a continuation of Matt’s old show with a myriad of entertainment features. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Matt and I’m glad that he’s finally got a free slot to resurrect some of his old content and his podcast, but I just think that slot was better suited to Alice. And as for Maya Jama. She is talented, but I don’t think she’s ready for her own permanent show just yet, and she certainly shouldn’t be butting in on the Scott Mills show. If anyone has to co-host on a Friday it should be Alice Levine. Maya should just have been put on the cover presenter line-up, and maybe given one of the 3-4am slots (as I fail to see the need for two 1 & 1Xtra’s stories show per week). Speaking of Alice, I’m pretty mortified that she’s just been kicked off her weekend afternoon show and thrown in with Dev when hardly anyone is listening relative to the afternoon show. I’m sure she’ll work well with Dev (she has in the past), but imho she works much better with Matt. Maybe a Matt and Alice co-host in the weekend afternoon slot could have worked well? It has to be said, these recent changes have certainly made the whole station very erratic. Ps. Whilst I’m on a rant, I’d stop this David Rodigan show repeat in the 4-6am show on a Sunday right now. I don’t think it’s the right show for that time slot at all. I’d switch it for either Rene LaVice or Benji B. I’d also switch Huw Stephens and Charlie Sloth.
